Im going for black wheels as well!!!

What is the best way to make em black? Put a new layer and rub everything else out????

There's loads of ways. I just selected the area and adjusted the lightness, but you could just as easily do it using the selective colour option, the colour mixer, the hue shift (lightness control) or you could create another layer and adjust the blending options until it looks right, or you could just brush over if with a reasonably low flow and opacity setting.

Here's another update, while I'm here, just widened the front arch.

Well i think i may have got mine how i wanted it now. It has taken me twice as long as it usually does but i think thats reflected in the overall finish and im pretty satisfied with it now.
Hope you like it, I know it won't be to everyones taste but I think it's my favourite of all the ones i have done and by far the most ambitious.

Ive nt started it yet hence no update!

how do u do the wide arches and that???

I'm not taking part in this one, or any others for a while. (exams)

As for the wide arches, it is a matter of selecting the arches and then copying and pasting them. Now move them outwards and backwards slightly, to get them where you want. Now carefully smudge from the existing arch to the c+p'd one. If you feel that you are smudging past the where the arch should be, then 'undo' the actions and select the area you are going to smudge before you start smudging.

HTH, for tutorials with pictures try digimods's site.

EDIT- nice work so far all, and koa that one looks amazing. The bonnet vent dosen't look 'right' to me, but probably is. :D

 It won't be the same without you Joe. I always look forward to seeing your work more that any others.

Joe, where does the vent look wrong ?
I have been staring at it for ages and after a while you can't always notice things that are easy to see when someone looks at it for the first time. :)

With regard to arches, if you use CS2 you can also use the warp feature, but that would also distort the wheel, so you would then have to go back to a previous version to copy the orignal wheel shape back over. Both ways work fine, the key is getting the light right when using the smudging tool.

Excellent work KoA, I'm a little surprised that you consider it your most ambitious, although I can see that the front end would have taken a while and the finish is very good quality. It's a little annoying because my front end was going to be very similar, so I may have to come up with a new plan.

At least my bonnet vent is different, although I may well be doing more with the bonnet, time permitting.

The main reason i say it Neo is because the side vent and the general shape of the car was a nightmare. I had to work out in what order i needed to do stuff, like i couldn't do the side vent untill the whole side of the car had been changed. So there was a lot of trial and error, and the paint finish then highlighted a lot of problems so I had to go over a lot of the stuff and reduce some of the shading i had used.
It may not look like it, but to me it my most ambitious one yet, i just wanted to keep it real and i think it worked.

I love the menacing look on yours Neo, you have certainly achieved what you set out to do (y)

Nice work BIGLEE, I can definitely see an improvement in your work over the past few challenges.

KoA, I'm glad you think I'm achieving my goal. I was thinking it was starting to look menacing, but wasn't sure if it was just wishful thinking. To be honest I think it's just the making it black and tinting the glass that does it, so it's not really a major achievement.

Nah, just looked to high on the right hand side. But it isn't :D

Its nice to be missed :) I will still keep an eye on the threads. (y)

rite ive f*cked it off for today its p*ssin me off ive done the arches, used urs and digimods site, and they look bloody awful!! All the colours dont match, and dont get me started on the smudging!!

All ive dont is darken the wheels!! Im not puttin a pic up as you know what black wheels look like

As you can see ive got the red mist over this weeks challenge, i hope its a better pic next week!!!

It can be a frustrating game, you just need to be patient and keep it until you get it looking right, although there is a little trial and error on occasions as well, far too many occasions in my case. The thing I really hate is when I've been working on a specific area for about two hours and got it looking just right and the PC crashes and I haven't saved it, that's happened plenty of times since I started doing these challenges.

Joe sort your priorities out, how can you place exams before photochopping. I hopoe your revision, etc. goes well anyway.

Here's another update, a bit more front end work.

Looking good, are you sure you meant a coupé, cos you still have a fair bit of work to do removing the rear doors and reshaping the rear window lengthening the front doors, etc. to make it a true coupé. Either way it's nice, I like the front end.

Suppose I may as well do another update while I'm at it, just a bit more work on the front end really and a couple of other bits that aren't instantly obvious.
