Hi, might be a strange question, but does anyone know if it works to disassembly and take out the axles in the front diff, cover it and then run the car as RWD? And would it be a problem to permanently run as RWD?

First of all I want to do it as a test because I need to check for screaching clanking noise from the wheels, axles or diff.

Secondly, as a test for fun.

I think they have a centre viscous coupling don't they? That may make it interesting to drive. Long term you would want that to be a solid coupling, or possibly a cush drive or something.

Should work fine though

The Panda ,4x4 is a part time rx4 isn't it?
So the rear wheels only get engaged if the front are spinning so removing the front drive shafts would mean you'd have no drive unless you did work to Make the box perrmently engage the rear wheels and I doubt the current set is it s able to handle that

I dont know

probably would have helped in the other thread if we knew we were talking. about a 4x4

they run fine as a normal FWD just by removing the prop shaft. Worth trying, to see if the noise changes

there's been quite a few problems with the transfer box and noise even from new.

Hi, this is a late reply, but just thought I would throw it up here, as a "conclusion" in case someone else has the same thought and does a search for it.

So, car is a 4x4 Panda 2007 model. I had some terrible noise from the left front wheels or axels. Ordered new bearings and a new outer CV axle joint.

Got the wrong parts and had to put back the old CV, resulting in me also breaking the circlip that holds it in the wheel hub.

The axle actually popped out and ruined my caliper and cracked the aluminium wheel. This is why I asked if it is possible to remove bot front axles, and drive the card only as RWD. I guess FWD works, but was curious about RWD. Might be that it would just spin the diff on the front wheels, not getting any momentum to the rear. Same as when the elft CV axle popped out, it was working and was drivable, but all momentum went to the "open axle, and there was no power/propulsion to go up a hill etc.

Put it all back together when I got the full CV axle, not sure if it was the axle, inner or outer joint, or the bearing that I changed.
