I bought the MJ on finance so will have to pay about £2.5k before arranging a new 3 yr 0% finance deal on the cross.

Ahh. Is this the result of what your car is worth at the moment? Ie paying the balance?

I'll have to see what they can work out for me. I got my car with 2.6K off list, obviously have paid off about £1600 so will have to look at the figures. So if i bought the car for 6.9K its going to be a question of what its worth now minus the £1600 and seeing what the difference is I guess.

I wanted to spec it as I fancied climate/fogs/leccy mirrors etc and order from the factory so had to suffer dealer prices :(

That's a shame. :(

I took my car as it was one they had coming in, but i could have had a car of my choice with the extras i wanted, although admittedly I wasn't looking for anything extra over aircon and paint choices.

So is it the depreciation that's essentially killing you then?

had a more closer look today it seems there is no centre diff but it has an electronic type thing between front and rear instead of the viscose so maybe it engages if it slips the front then as said it also uses the abs to stop wheels spinning

No, there is no centre diff (and isn't in the normal 4x4 either). The 4-wheel drive system is identical to the petrol-engined Climbing model, with a 2-piece prop shaft to the rear. The viscous coupling is inside the rear diff unit. The dashboard ELD switch acts to tell the ABS computer to brake a freely-spinning rear wheel. You wont see anything different under the car.

Here's the official fuel consumption figures for the Multijet-powered Cross:
Urban 7litres per 100km, extra urban 4.4 and combined 5.3

Which, if I've got the maths right (4.54 litres per gallon, 100km=62 miles), gives:
urban 40mpg
extra urban 64 mpg
combined 53 mpg

That suddenly makes it look much more appealing compared to my 1.2 4x4, which currently averages 41mpg (according to the often optimistic on-board computer) with mix of motorway, back roads and town driving.

It will be as I paid far more than you did which was under 9K with a bit of this n that thrown in free, but had a paper figure of 9750 adding full climate with elec mirrors fogs etc etc Although with the 4yr 0% and you getting 3yr apr finance the figure overall if you took it to 3yrs would have been much closer.

It's one of the decisions whether to go with fiat finance on a 0% deal and have to pay near full price or get it much cheaper via supersaver etc and take out a loan but then have to pay a couple of grand on interest. The only way to win is if you have cash in pocket.

I suppose I could have haggled a lot more but se la vie :)

The cross is available on 3 yr 0% and I would imagine if you pushed you could get a 3-4yr 0% on the 100HP but then if you go dealer route and get the deal via factory order it will cost more.......

You can order the Panda Multijet cross now for August/September delivery. It costs just over 12K - the good news is I get staff discount rate of 15%!!!!! I'm SO tempted

Won't you lose a huge amount in depreciation on the Eleganza if you trade it in so soon?

I guess i was extremely fortunate because i got a price that was cheaper than supasaver (by £1) and i still got finance from the dealer. So all win in that respect. Just wish my dealer hadn't gone bust would have made the whole thing loads easier. The interest i would pay on my finance over 3 years amounts to about £1K so still pretty good really.

That's the benefit of getting a pre-order  It's been an extremely good deal if you got the supasaver price with the fiat finance as supasaver doesn't do finance. I'm supprised that you didn't get the 3 or 4yr 0% deal if it was through the dealer though...But you would have a cheek to moan :)

it is different the rear diff looks different the viscouse ill take your word for it is hidden inside and not on the front of it like before in the petrol and there is some wiring heading into the hole lot maybe an electronic introduction of the rear drive like the sedici or it could simply be a diff speed sensor to hep the abs identify a free wheel

it's not been pdi'd yet but as soon as it is il have a picky of the underside to show and maybe some more answers

why is it the oficial statments of the system the sales mens answers are always nothing close to how the system actaully works and what exactly it has do fiat think were scared of the truth

o well the truth is out there

By the way, related back to the fog lights topic, note that on the Cross, the foglights are mounted higher up (they're the inner most set of 'headlights' in the photos above). Because they are more than 400mm off the ground, they can be used at any time. The indicators are down where the foglights normally go on 'lesser' Pandas

Wrong on two accounts :(

Looking at the pic's the front fogs are in the same place as usual! Also front fogs cannot be used anytime. As said in highway code, no matter how high up they are. It's all to do with the way the lense projects the light beam (y)

I stand partially corrected - sure there used to be something about fog lights mounted higher... but not in those rules Chris's linked to. My Polo many years ago had fog lights mounted in the grille, alongside the headlights, and I was led to believe that meant they could be used more.

However, on the Cross, they are mounted at the same level as the headlights, in the protruding 'pods' above the bumper line (and there are headlight washers on those pods too). The indicators are in the bumper where the fogs go on other models -- or at least they were on the one I looked at at the dealers.

Does this Fiat photo (below) help make it clearer? This was the all-black Monster version, but the front is the same as the Cross

As to viscous coupling/diffs/electronics, I'll take another look -- gives me an excuse to go back again! I did look underneath the other day, and apart from the different sump guard, at a very quick peek it all looked similar to mine. I may be wrong though... Thinking about it, there would need to be something to detect that the rear wheels were being driven as well as sensing if one of them was spinning in order to work correctly. So that may be the wiring LittlePip can see by the diff?
