I've always wanted to try one and my mum and dad have always told me never to do it never even be in room when someones doing it, i brought it up today and they just shouted at me.

I know they have both done it my dad wont even talk about his experience he hates anyone mentioning it and my mum wont tell me exactly she just said you will live with the consquences and your anxiety will get worse and i won't help you through whatever happens to you. Just telling me never to do it and if i do i will have to move out.

I really want them to tell me exactly what happened but they wont they just said its unexplainable and they don't want to talk about it.

Now my mum is like me not scared of anything horror films etc but she really is about this.

Has anyone done it and is it worth doing?

I just want to know why people wont talk about there experiences about what happened and why they say never go near one.

I remember when i was 14 we made a paper one at my friends house his mum came in saw it and ripped it up.

Never done because - like you - I've had lots of friends and family who have done it and just kinda go off the rails whenever it's mentioned. As far as I can tell there is nothing to be gained from doing it, but it's all part of the fabric of life - if you want to have that thread in yours then there really is nothing stopping you.

Yeah my mum explained it as incidents and weird things happening within her household and family after doing it. I read some reviews they say the same type of thing.

Personly i recon its a load of bull. and people hear or are told things and these things are usualy just made up or heard from someone else. so it ends up the whole chinese whisper thing going on.

My sister has one.

"Scientific explanation
Users subconsciously direct the path of the triangle to produce a word that is in that person's subconscious thought process. This subconscious behavior is known as ideomotor action, a term coined by William Carpenter in 1882. It is also known as automatism.[4] Some people may be convinced that the "powers" of the ouija board are real because they are unaware that they are in fact moving the piece and therefore assume that the piece must be moving due to some other "spiritual force". The subconscious thought process may produce an answer that is different from what the user expected in their conscious thought process—thus perpetuating the idea that the board has "mystical powers". Penn & Teller: Bull****! episode on Ouija Boards, ran an experiment using unbiased participants. Questions were being asked to the late William Frawley with very strong answers. The participants were then blindfolded and the board was turned 180 degrees without their knowledge. With continued questioning, the planchette then traveled to bare areas of the board where the participants believed the "Yes" and "No" marks were located.

Spiritualist explanation

Spiritualists who believe Ouija boards can be used to make actual contact with the spirit world feel that the act of hindering a medium’s ability to use his or her own eyes while the board is in use effectively places too great of a handicap on the whole exercise (see ad hoc hypothesis). This argument stems from the belief that contacted spirits actually utilize the eyes of the medium during a Ouija session in order to point to the letters and words needed to form a message. Most believers of this notion believe that the board has no intrinsic power in and of itself, but rather, is used simply as a tool to aid a medium while in communication with the spirit world.[5]"

again as with everything else in this world Scientific explanation wins with facts/tests over storys/imagination

Group of us had a go with one many years ago, it was great fun. Asking questions about a person/people then pushing the glass around to spell out various insults or give spooky answers.
At the end of the day it's all bull. Wheree you have a few people 'resting' their fingers on an upturned glass, you'll always get one (or more) people 'influencing' the glass.
A simple victorian parlour game that has been blown out of all proportion.

ALot of this could all be in the sub-consious, if you want things to happen then you can almost will them (on a spiritual level....not a lotto draw level) to happen in your own mind. Its down to belief & what you want to believe in,if you want to believe your dead parent/relative is in contact with you then whats wrong with that?

My own view is there is no god/devil etc however I have a open mind on some things, like Dave I have had a few unexplained experiences (beside a fiat customer actually thanking me once) that make you think. You have to be prepared to 'open your mind' almost away from what you currently know or from what you assume. A example would be the relationship between LSD & religious/spiritual experiences, why are they so common?

whats the worst that could happen

As said by others i wouldnt believe them, but i do have an open mind on stuff, like theres odd things happening at work.

Like some staff being near the back door and a smell of perfume appears and goes almost instantly when only one staff member is there. Files falling off shelves, one lad was tapped on the shoulder when nobody was stood near him and tbh, ive felt as though theres been someone stood at the office door breathing on me but theres only me about as i have cctv screen next to me

I do believe in stuff so I think some stories could be true I felt someone really tap me on shoulder once in my house but no one was behind me and I
Came in my living room to find all pics turned down of my grandad who died couple months earlier.

My wife had the misfortune to dabble in it once when we were first married ..she got roped into attending by a friend she used to call on across the road .[girls night].that night she came in looking very pale and shaken and never did it again..apparently the board spelled out I will get you on the way home .. we didn't sleep at all that night and by that I mean she wouldn't let me ..just in case..

One of the older staff at the shop thinks its a woman who had like 20+ years service who died last year

It's all BS!

Playing with vunerable minds. Sounds good fun to me. I live in one of the most haunted places in the country so scaring the crap out of curious visitors is brilliant.

p.s. previous owner of our house hung himself on our staircase (y)
