Yes, just saw this. Excellent news. No more James "feckin'" Allen !! :) :) The Cock Has Been Stopped !! (Sniffpetrol readers will know what I mean).

Now all they need to do is coax Murray Walker out of retirement and F1 will instantly become exciting again ;)

I get goosebumps every time :)

I hate to disagree Roberto. But after Murray's performance commentating on the Race Of Champions at Wembley, I hope he doesn't come back and is just remembered for how good he was in his day :)

Does it really mean we are saved from the cock that is James Allen though? Now thats a silver lining!

About time too...

One other thing with BBC.... no sodding adverts cutting in just when something good happens..

ITV F1 was also crap as when you watched the highlights it had been cut in all the wrong places like when they preview the track before the race and they cut it half way through the lap

Mixed feelings about this. Yes, no more James-Oh, I'd better mention something that happened 10 minutes ago because I completely missed it-Allen and Martin-Really don't know **** about anything-Brundle can only be a good thing for F1 coverage. However, as much as I loved Murray's style and passion oozing out of my TV I'm afraid that it would be like bring Dave Walker back to manage Norwich. It would be a pale impression of former glory.

Let's give Charlie Cox a go. Love his commentary for touring cars. I just hope that BBC will realise that they need to step up to the plate and dedicate as much broadcast time and effort to F1 as ITV have done. Apart from the commentators and the adverts the coverage is far superior to anything BBC ever did with it.

Dave Walker ???

Do you mean Mike ? ;)

And I actually don't mind Brundle. Norfolk's finest can be quite amusing given the right foil, and JA wasn't that person.

I have a feeling we're going to see a whole new commentary team with loads of added interactive features under the red button, like multicams and telemetry.

F1

Hi all,

they cant reinstate fleetwoodmacs, "the chain" to the intro music, the BBC no longer have teh copywright to this. Also, I was listening to radio one about this on the way home in the car tonight and there was an interview with murray walker, and the question was posed on coming out of retirement, and the answer was.

"Not been aksed yet, but will have to tink about it if they do..."

Hmmmmm Is murray bored with his garden? I think so!!!

Of course the Beeb can use "The Chain" if they want to. Most of the time it's a simple PRS transaction, with "The Mac" getting paid everytime it's used. It never did them any harm in the past ;)

It's never usually up to the band anyway. It'll be the publishers that do the deal and they'll never turn down a quick buck.

I like Martin Brundle i cant stand James Allen tho i think Mark Blundel would have been alot better or maybe Damon Hill or Eddie Irvine he would be great. Murray Walker is brilliant.

Ooops - chap at work is called Dave Walker so bit of a mix up there. My bad. :(

Agree on using The Chain too. Ahhh, the memories. :)

I'd heard it was to be The Hamster, too.

Dummm dum dum dum dum dum dum dum dum dummmm
Dummm dum dum dum dum dum dum dum dum dummmm
Dum dummm dum dum dum dum dum dum dum dum dummmm
Its gotta be done!

Why not get the entire Top Gear team involved ?

Makes perfect sense :)

Stig could do a demo lap, May could do pit lane stuff, Hamster and Jezza could just, well, do what they do.

Murray on the mic in the race...

It couldn't get any better !

So, what function do you foresee Mr May performing, Rob?

COCK STOPPIN' BEEBS

Yes, it's the best news since some bloke took his new slicing machine round to Mr Hovis's house: As of next year Formula 1 will be back on the BBC.

Now, aside from celebrating an end to irksome ad breaks and the repetitive sponsorship bumpers therein, lots of people have e-mailed since last week's announcement to point out that perhaps we have, at last, Stopped The Cock.

Obviously Sniff Petrol would like to take all the credit for this, even though it's patently not true and might make us look self-aggrandising to the point of mentalness. Besides which, we're not out of the wet voiced woods yet and there's always a small chance some buffoon at Television Centre will accidentally phone the weak milky stats bore and invite him to jump channels. But let's hope it doesn't come to that.

If you're listening, slightly victorious and smug BBC Sport people, here are some pointers for your F1 coverage:

1. Do NOT hire James Allen.

2. Bring back The Chain as the theme tune. This is what the people want from F1. Not flashy graphics, not seamless punditry, just turning on the telly of a Sunday afternoon to hear ‘bumm bu-bu-bumm bu-bu-bububu-bummm…' and then that ace bit where it gets all exciting and the guitar goes ‘nangnangnangnangnangnangah!' NB: This MUST coincide with a shot of an F1 car bottoming out and sparks coming off the bottom. It's THE LAW.

3. Do NOT hire James Allen.

That is all.

Hear Hear !!
