Hi all, Following on from previous threads I ended up replacing the block and bottom end on my GP (engine code 199a6000) with a block / bottom end from a 843a1000 engine. All electrical components are now back on and the engine idles runs smoothly (off load). The oil pressure is good (new filter and oil). I'm getting a fault code P0011 (over advanced timing) when driving - no error if car is left idling or whilst revving in neutral. I have checked the loom to the variation control solenoid - its fine, I have check that the solenoid is working (applied 12v and could see it moving - solenoid was removed). Am seeing No 1 timing on my obd2 go from -5 / -6 at idle to 28 at 2500rpm. If I unplug my variation solenoid it make no difference to the timing / running of the engine. I started the engine with the variation solenoid housing removed and minimal oil came out the solenoid supply line (even revving it). Whilst rebuilding the engine I replaced the cam carried gasket - could this be blocking the oil delivery line? does anyone have oil gallery diagrams for both the 199a6000 and the 843a1000 engines?
thx

Who did this mix (of VVT and non-VVT parts)? You or some "professional mechanic" (top notch master level)?

What diagrams? Just pay attention to all of the holes (if they line-up: block->gasket->head). Or 1 is missing (not present).

So, yes, something is blocking/restricting the oil flow. Plus, VVT probably needs more system pressure (different check-valve setting inside the pump) to operate.
Error may have something to do with the timing belt (skipped a tooth) or VVT, or both. Plus camshaft sensor maybe.

Hi thanks for the guidance - I did al the work. My intent was just to drop the 843a1000 in but due to all the other components needed for the variable cam ended up using just the short engine. All the components swap over no problem.
I replaced the cam belt plus tensioner & water pump during the rebuild and have double checked the timing set up.
I get no other engine codes and the engine runs / starts well except for the P0011 error code - done about 150miles since swap.

Just trying to understand the oil supply expected / required for the variation to work correctly

OK. Most important thing for now is the camshafts lubrication.
If there is oil starving (may share same gallery with VVT - like in the 8-valve engines) = trouble (don't test-drive it any more).

Good to take a pictures, document your work. Example: blocks, old and new (holes pattern - same or not, or one missing?).
