i stick front plate on for MOT= PASS

proper number plate lighting bolts= PASS

Owt else???

Take front number plate off after MOT = asking for plod to pull you over :)

The law applies all year round, not just when you are in the MOT bay ;)

Smee, I know how those bolts work. Last time I saw some them illuminated about 2" around them.

Smee, no thats not the case.

The front number plate has to be mounted vertically at the front of the vehicle. There is a reason why all cars have it mounted vertically and at the front, cos its the law :)

Have you done/tried this yet ? Or is it assumption ?

I know someone who got 3points and £60 fine for having a standard shape plate in the standard place but with different (but very readable) typeface.

those bolts are still a pass though and my number plate has been in my front windscreen for about 7 months now, the cops don't have a problem because it's displayed on the front of my car :)

But its hidden behind your wipers.

Surely if it was ok there you would not need to move it for the MOT? :)

what has the typeface gotta do with where i put my number plate???

i only move it just incase the MOT guy is in a bad mood, just a precaution to save me the hassle of getting it re-tested and smashing his face in ;)

1) I never said the typeface has anything to do with Your plates, I was mearly illustrating the point that something as insignificant as this can get you 3 points and £60.
2) I take it the answer is no then, you haven't had it MOT'd with these plates.
3) The front numberplate must must be visible in every area of the plate in normal daylight conditions from a distance of between 18 metres and 22 metres (diagonally measured in a relevant square). Also, as Tom said it must be mounted vertically, or if not practical, as close to the vertical as possible.
4) Rear plates must also be mounted vertically (see above) and must be lit so as to be visible at night from a diagonal relevant distance of between 15 and 18 metres in every part of the plate

Not saying your car doesn't comply, just that having the plate under the wipers under the windscreen it can't and get someone in a bad mood and you could pay heavily. The max penalties for incorrect display of a numberplate can be upto £1000 and possible withdrawl of the registration by the DVLA.
