Just to update this, someone nicked my old camera last week, so i now have nothing.
The d80 is too massive to carry for normal stuff (which my old canon would have been used for) and the D40 is now only £240 with a 4gig SD card at the local electronics shop, so looks like I will go for this - I really doubt I will change the lens so it's not an issue - and anyway, if I need to upgrade, it was only £240 lost

240 is pretty cheap huh., i think jessops are looking for 340 for the D40, and with a 2 gb card.,
