i wanted nice bass but didn't want a sub taking up my small boot in my SEI.
I also wanted some sound from the rear, but didn't want speakers that were visible.

I decided to get some 6x9s. i got some fli 69s (fli are made by vibe). I then made a stealth shelf out of mdf, with the help of Emm other half.

The sound i get now is amazing, the bass is soooo good. It struggles with the super low tones but everything else is amazing. and as they are 3way speakers i'm getting good high and mid range.

i have faded 75% to the rear cos my front speakers distort to easily and can't keep up with the rear.

Are you using the head unit to power them?

If so, get yourself a decent 4 channel amp with crossovers built in to drive all your speakers. Set the fronts up with the high pass filter at 120-150hz and leave the rear full range. Cutting out the lower frequencies will let the front play a little louder, giving you a better soundstage.

Using an amp to drive the whole system will also give you a clearer sound, with more volume to boot! A win win situation (y)

I bought 6x9s for the same reason, some pioneer ones, and im not so pleased with them. yes i do get good bass, and i couldnt afford anything better at the time, but as you said low range are a nightmare. Eveything else they are generally alright.

it's all running off the head unit, can't really afford to buy an amp at the mo.

i'm not to bothered that the super low sounds arent that good, it still sounds sh!t hot

I've got Sony 6x9s in the rear hidden under a mdf stealth shelf and Pioneer 10cms in the front running off the head unit, an amazing difference to the standard speakers that come in the Cinq. Always used to have all the sound in the rear but now its 50-50 with both speakers and its sounds great with some basey music on, especially cos they're small cars.
