General Next Panda Adventure......

Here, you don't want to bring the convertable to the 2008 fiat meet in New York?

I'm thinking of taking a new 500 over for it as it will be 25 years of the US Fiat Club and 25 years since Fiat left the States vowing never to return. Would be really cool to bring something like a 500 over as they'd go wild!

It's going to be massive with cars from all over the country at it!

(yup, it's a crazy idea... but you know me and crazy ideas)

Jim

Oh, and I mean this type of 500 as it should be out by July 2008....

Must remember to buy Aircon on it thou:eek:

:chin: I'll see what the wife says but doubt very much if i could get 4 weeks off at one time. It sounds like a plan :)

Well, that's the beauty of it being in New York, its a weekend thing and then you could spend 2 weeks doing Washington, Boston, Chicago, New England, Maine etc...

All within 1 days drive of NY!

I don't think I could do another 'Sea to Shining Sea' type thing....

But at least now we've cracked the shipping and insurance thing... and the Fiat Forum now has loads of mates in the US that will bend over backwards for us too should we need help!

Firstly she is the only person that's said they didn't like it, Second she doesn't see it as a car more my midlife crisis.

Last week I told her to go shopping with my daughter & treat herself, take a couple of hundered quid & blow it on herself "can't be arsed" and "I've got enough stuff" was the answer  Suppose it gives me a bit more dosh for the cars ;)

You're Home! Bravo!

I just checked in and was quite surprised to see that you're already posting messages here! I didn't think you'd get back to the keyboard so quickly, what with jet lag, flying hassles, and the like.

Well done, Jim! Glad I...and my fellow FLU folks...could be of help to you.

Frankly, you're a bit of a hero amongst Fiat fans here in North America. True that!

Keep us posted! And remember....

Fiat Freak Out 2008: 25th anniversay year....in the Pocono Mountains, just about one hour west of New York City!

Attenzione: start making your plans NOW!

Congratulations, Jim(y)
I have to say I feel sort of sad that it's all over. I've been following the forum since you left Detroit and I'm going to miss see what you are up to. :(

It's was a real pleasure meeting you and showing you a little of the Motor City and it's been just a delight to read your posts on this forum. It was so cool to see the US through your eyes and get a totally different perspective on things.

To me all the posts in this thread were great but the one that made me fall out of my chair laughing was Dave's commentary on Ranger Pattie's "bum"! It was just so unexpected as there was so much in you previous post with the scenery, the "slightly broken-down car", the crazy-lady panda-bear story, Washington DC, etc. etc. And, what Dave took away from all of that was that Pattie's got a big bum! So, if you do come back to Detroit, Jim, bring Dave as I'd like to buy him a pint:)
Take care,
Paul

I would love to see what the Americas thought of an uno turbo, tipo sedicivalvole, a lancia Y10 turbo, and my panda selecta :)

Add to that Punto GT, Strada 130TC Abarth (hey, this thing actually goes round corners!), Cinq Sporting/ 1242/ Turbo and even a Croma Turbo (the original). ;)

Not a Fiat I know, but our US friends would wet themselves over a Lancia Delta Integrale :p

EDIT: How could I forget. PANDA 4x4! One of those could take on a Hummer (the pretend one that all the wannabe gangstaz drive) off road and beat it. Imagine the looks on peoples faces when that happend

Do you know I don't actually have a panda to drive now?

So that means that I can't even write about adventures to Tescos:(

1. 1987 4x4 - In bits in the garage awaiting paint
2. 1995 Selecta - In bits at the bottom of the garden
3. 1989 750 - At Stuarts till he gets his Novo Panda delivered
4. 1991 Super - 3475 miles away in New York

I'd have to say that out of those 4 reasons not to be able to drive a panda, reason 4 would probably be unique:D

Jim

Jim you can have Splutter back as soon as you want as I'm off for the next 2 weeks fitting a bathroom.

Alan why on earth would I want to get all sensible and practible, I drive Italian stuff. :D

Good to see that you got home okay Jim... :D

Greetings from the Arctic Circle... Home of the Fiat Motorhome... One Brava and one Alfa... No Pandas anywhere... Don´t think they rate Fiats in Norway...

See you in September... :)

Right guys, need a bit of advice.

As stated earlier the current plan is for me to pick up Sylvia and keep her safe and warm at mine until Jim's ready to come and rescue her. But being insured TPFT on mine means I'm not insured to drive other peoples' cars.

So what's the best plan of action? Is it possible to get insurance for just a week or so? If yes, does it have to be with your own insurer (Churchill, in my case) or can I go with someone else? I don't think Churchill do short term cover, when mum insured me on her car whilst my Panda was "having a rest" they said the minimum cover was a month.

I think Norwich Union do short term cover for things like newly bought cars in need of taking home.

I'd much rather drive Sylvia back as I'm familiar with Pandas, although my brother could do it, he's driven mine and did perfectly well. ;)

This is more of a thinking out loud post really, but if anyone can offer any tips or solutions they'd be appreciated.

Edit: Or we could see how much it is to put me on Jim's policy and I could reimburse him when he comes to pick her up. It'd probably be expensive though as I'm 19 and only get my 2nd year's no claims in a month and a half.

That and I have a *****, which always seems to make a "kerching" sound go off with insurance companies.
