General New Ulysse Connect Nav +

Hooray!
Fiat dealer has had car in all morning. I can now be CONNECTED once I buy a new SIM card that is not BT Cellnet/O2. Apparently, their cards cannot be used on the system due to the way data transmission is made.

Glad that Fiat UK notified all its' UK dealers to recommend this bit of advice to all its' customers - NOT.

Oh yeah, my long luggage cover has finally been fitted this afternoon - not bad, just around 2 months wait! Rear nearside leaking lighting module still not replaced; should have been a 3 day wait - more like 3 months - and at the weekend noted that my front nearside indicator cluster had also fogged up - the dealer knows!!!!

Oh well, keeps life sweet.

Hi,

I tried with a Cellnet card but it didn't work, I assumed it was a problem with my answer machine which couldn't be switched off. Anyway I swapped for a Virgin card to see if that helped and it worked straight away. Just as well I didn't keep trying with the BT Cellnet card. I think with BT Cellnet you have to ask for the data to be activated, it is not standard. I had this trouble using my laptop and mobile. I did use the Connect Nav today to find an address by just providing the name and I have to say it all worked really well.

My only problems are:

1. Heated Drivers seat doesn't heat
2. Sunroof trim and control box hanging donw on both rear sunroofs

As far as fuel economy is concerned, I am lucky to get 23mpg round town. I haven't done a long trip yet.

Froogy, the Nav/Stereo system has a fan which you should be able to hear without the engine running. See if this is working.

The door is likely to be the anti-trap seal. This could also cause the window to open instead of close, even if it is already closed it might move a tiniy amount and causing the anti trap to make the window open. I think the car locks again after a set time if you don't open any of the doors, it is a security feature.

Poggy,

Thanks for that advice re BT Cellnet - I will give them a ring now and see if they can activate it, otherwise will buy a Virgin SIM.

Let you know.

Stuart

UPDATE - Just phoned O2 - Data now activated on the SIM, but takes 24 hours to process - will let you know what happens!!!!

Hi all

I've had my Ulysse Eleganza 2.2 JTD with super visibility pack, leather pack, 16" alloys since May this year. I bought it as an ex demo so I didn't have to wait.

It's great! Brilliant drive, very comfortable. The whole family think it's superb. Until the problems started!

1. Alarm going off without cause anyitme of day and night. Several times. {Started about a three months ago}

2. Automatically folding door mirrors stopped folding automatically. {about two months ago}

3. A rear door stays locked from outside and inside when the child safety-lock is on. The only way to get it to open is to turn off the safety-lock and then lock and unlock the car several times from outside. Even then you cannot open the door from outside till you have reached inside to open it from inside. {Started about same time as door mirror fault}.

4. Audio controls locked so could not adjust CD player/ radio except from steering-wheel stalk. {problem only lasted for about two weeks- its okay now}

5. Connect nav not registered. Dealer does not have the correct forms sent away for them three weeks ago, no news yet. I get the feeling they have never done this before.

6. Engine uses oil quickly. On the Seat Alhambra I had before you could go 10,000 miles without needing to top-up.

Took the car into dealer three weeks ago they didn't know how to fix the problems. Then they were notified of a vehicle recall regarding the body computer so I went in for them to reprogramme the car.
It was partially successful with the door mirror problem fixed, but thats all.

I don't know where to go from here. The dealer seems as perplexed as me.

Other than that I love the car. Just hoping they can fix the niggles or I'll be forced to ask for compensation.

Can anyone help?

Hopefully

Luthien

Hi Luthien,

Any more info on that vehicle recall re body computer? I have heard nothing from my dealer!

My alarm has also started going off at strange times during the day - no reasons yet, but I am monitoring the situation.

Have also emailed O2 as to why their SIM does not work with the Connect system - I am loathe to transfer to another network, especially when O2 apparently activated the data transmission a few days ago and still no joy!

I think I can help with the alarm problem. Mine started doing this about 6 months ago and eventually was cured 2 weeks ago! The solution? A piece of felt/gauze fitted over each of the ultrasonic transmitters/receivers.

Apparently they were too sensitive (exactly what I had suggested 6 months ago) and this is how they reduced the sensitivity. I was concerned that it might have made them too insensitive but I have checked it out by setting the alarm and moving about inside the car (recommend doing this at night when the neighbours can't see you sitting in the car waving your arms about), it operated as expecetd.

BTW it took 3 visits to the dealer and 1 visit from a field engineer specially flown over to look at the problem.

Hope this helps some of you.

Regards, Keggers

Hi Stuart

I know nothing more re: vehicle recall. If no-one else has been notified then I'm not sure what is going on.

I've now an additional irritant. The body computer doesn't recognize the tyre pressure sensors so a message with bleep comes up every time I drive the car.

I'm in the process of moving house so I'll get it looked at later.

All the best with your car. Hope the alarm does'nt become a problem.

Kind regards

Luthien

Hi,

What I don't get about the tyre sensors is how you set them up. The tyre pressures are different depending on the load etc. How does the car know, does it just register the pressure when you switch on the ignition and monitors it to see if it drops. My other car, BMW had a button to set the pressures once you had pumped the tyres up.

There is nothing in the book and I haven't tried letting air out to see what happens.

Poggy

You can not set them up only dealers can. They are to beep when batterys low, not working, not programmed, or when pressure drops below 2.5 bar. Spare wheel does not have a sensor in. So sorry mate you can not do anything.back to the dealer i think.

Hi,

Thanks for that info, I was curious about how they knew what pressure to be set at.

:)Hello Fiatees,
I just got my new 2003 Petrol ulysse. Good Car but all instruction manuals in Italian(I think need to learn the language).
Anybody out there have an English Version.

Kamari Yahya

Hi Kamari,
Suprise that you got the manual in Italian. I got mine a week ago it's in english.Anyway i'LL be in JB till 15/11/2003 call me 012-2016970, after the date i'll be in Kuala Lumpur.

Hi!

At last, having been passed around the O2 system over past few weeks, they now admit they cannot turn on DATA transmission on O2 PAYG cards [but they can on contract if you ask] - this was after one girl said it was being switched on within 24 hours, having spoken to a technician.

Just purchased a VIRGIN Sim yesterday - hopefully being registered as we speak, then need to re-connect. Looking good so far!

Hi [again]

How come the spare wheel does not have a sensor? Is this another cost cutting exercise by Fiat. I presume that if you change a tyre for any reason, and then go to a garage to have the tyre replaced, you need to then put the original spare back, unless you try and move the sensors. All 5 tyres on mine are 16" alloys!

Amazing what the manual doesn't say!

Stu

Hi,

Believe it or not, the pressure warning message flashed up yesterday. I assumed it was probably a mistake, but I went to the garage anyway and although the pressures were all different (so much for PDI check), one was really low at 30psi. I pumped it up and then this morning the warning came up again. I checked the tyre and it had dropped to 30psi again. Anyway I went to a tyre place to check it out and I had a screw in the tyre. Cost me £10 (pretty reasonable) and it is now fixed. I did get to see the sensor which is stuck on the back of the valve. The tyre fitter said you had to be careful not to catch the, when putting the tyre back as they cost around £80-90 to replace.

I presume the spare has no sensor as it is stored pretty close to the rear wheels and may interfere. Still I didn't realise it didn't.

Hi!

That's interesting. At least they are in there. I thought they looked like those sensors that are attached to the alloy wheel itself [I have seen them in car magazines], but at least we know what to look out for.

Surely a warning here - tell the tyre fitter that you have sensors on before they even attempt to take the tyre off - that way, if they mess up, they will be liable for costs surely! I can envisage this being broken, and then the tyre fitter disclaiming all liability/responsibility because they were not notified. Imagine trying to get a spare one from Fiat..... the mind boggles!

Hey - you reckon you got PDI check - lucky s*d!

Stu

Hi,

The service book wasn't stamped for a PDI, so maybe it didn't. I have had to send the book off to be stamped.

I checked the software version number and it is 5.32.

Poggy

The batterys for the tyre monitors are meant to last for 10 years. I believe that later on in it productions, that the they will be more software updates over the radio waves and d/l over night direct to you connect system, and it will tell you exacly which wheel is faulty ect.

Hi,

That would be a good addition as all it says is "Tyre Pressure Low", much better if it tells you which one.

Do you think they will send the updates for this and Connect Nav without having to chase them. I have 5.32 on the Connect Nav, but I think Stuary has 5.31. Is there anyway to find out when updates are released and what the updates actually do.
