General New Ulysse Connect Nav +

General New Ulysse Connect Nav +

Hi,

I think that the dealers should put pressure on the manufacture, after all it is them who are Fiat's real customer. They should be moaning about the Connect Nav so much that it gets solved. These cars have been on the market for about a year I think. Surely somebody must be able to use Connect Nav, they can't all not work.

Hopefully yours will be fixed in the next few days and then you can tell me what to do.

I think that you advance past learner driver depending on how many posts you make.

The fiat is built on the same production line as the Peugeot and the Citroen in france dont let them fool you.If you take a look inside the peugeot 406 you will notice all the switch gear and trim is exactly the same .The sat nav even comes into the country in french and has to be changed. This is one of the reasons so much of owners manual seems to have been lost in translation.

Fiat have just had a sale in derby of ex fleet and a prestigio with full leather etc with only 200 miles and 3 months old went for £15000

Wow, £15000 - great residuals!!!! Wonder if it was cheap coz Connect Nav didn't work!

I originally wanted a Prestigio, but the 6 seats were not an option. We already have 2 children of our own [plus childminded on top of that], and if we have another one, then we could be stuck if we go away - i.e. I would remove back two seats to give me enough baggage space.

Hi,

I'm an Italian living in Dublin who has just ordered an Ulysse Admiral 2.0 petrol (the UK equivalent of a prestige) with all the options possible (Connect Nav+ included) which should be delivered by beginning of january 2004.
I have ordered it directly from Fiat Ireland, where I have a friend, so I try to contact him and see if he can help us (I doubt!!!) even before to receive the car.

Stuart Ash what I suggest you is to ask the Italian guys that you will have at the phone next time to send you the istructions in Italian (if they have) and I will translate for you (or alternatevelly give me their phone number and I try to contact them kick them in the ass in Italian so may be.........(may be not but...)

Hi,

Still waiting for my Ulysse Eleganza, but it should be here in the UK by Wednesday and then delivery to the dealer and PDI should make it about 2 weeks max. Or in Fiat dealer language, "you'll be lucky if you see that for 4 weeks".

Anyway, does anybody know if you can add a privacy handset to the built in telephone. I may use the car for work and I may not want other people to hear my conversation.

Thanks

Poggy

Hi,

Car in due for delivery on Tuesday next week, looking forward to it. Also looking forward to getting the Connect NAV to work, even the garage said you will have fun learning how to work all the gadgets.

Hi all!

Still not connected! Milan never phoned my mobile back. BUT I have now put pressure onto the dealer this week, and they have now contacted the UK Connect specialist in Fiat [?] who is now on the case. If he gets things moving, I may even publish his name.....

Still haven't got my rear light cluster, as ordered weeks ago and promised within 3 days. Parts department now back on it!

Still haven't got my long luggage cover, as ordered with the car back in May. The dealer has no idea what it is, the Parts department can't get it, and the dealer reckons it is a factory-fit option only. I tried to explain what is was by reference to the Ulysse Brochure, but they have none in stock!!! Really useful if someone walks in off the street.

Will keep you lot informed. I don't particularly want the dealer just to give me my option money back so I walk away.

Just out of interest, can anyone who has the Connect system tell me what version of Telematics they are on? I will check my CD case tonight and get back to you.

All good fun, but still enjoying it!

Stu

Hi Poggy,

Not sure if there are any connections to make it a privacy telephone. I have had a look, and nothing seems obvious. I have also noticed that the hands free kit is not as good as a Nokia kit I have in my Mondeo - I find there is echo.

Hi,

Have a look at www.targaconnect.com they provide the Fiat Connect Nav service. They may be able to help, it also tells you more about the service and how it works.

The real interesting bit is under the FAQ section.

Does anybody know how much the subscription is after the 1st year.

Poggy

Hi.

I think subscription is about 170 Euros. This was per Trudance in Milan when I last spoke to her. This means that in rip-off Britain more likely to be £200. I would ask the dealer, but what's the point. I am now dealing with the third person at my branch - original salesman left, sales manager took over and left last month, now new salesman on the case - really consistent.

Thanks for the website - will check it out now and get back to y'all.

Connect update - wife took a call this morning from dealer - they want me to text a special number from the car. No idea what yet until I listen to ansaphone at home, but will let you know what happens.....

Hi,

I will ask the dealer how much it is. The Connect Nav works by sending a text (over GSM network)to the control room in Italy with your name, position (from GPS), vehicle type and language (ie English). Within about 30 seconds they should call you back over the normal GSM network.

If your phone is out of reach, it will continue to try. If they can't call you back, they will also keep trying until they do. Even if the GPS doesn't have a lock, it will provide the nearest estimated location using the inertial movement from the ABS sensors.

The website is pretty good for finding out how it works.

Hi,

I understand how the Connect works, but at the moment the Connect guys in Milan cannot recognise my vehicle - they have managed to take the warning off re 'Breakdown and Emergency calls deactivated', but they cannot activate the car by the satellite.... Once activated, the system should work as described.

I have to rush home at 6 tonight. Their engineer in Italy has promised to phone the car and sort it out - reckon it may be a hardware fault, which means dealer will have to replace the whole unit [under warranty]. Will let you know the score on Monday; don't hold your breath.

Stuart

Hi,

How did you get on, any luck with it. I am not sure why they would send a signal via satellite as it is all GSM based as far as I can tell from the website.

By the way TargaConnect is a fully owned subsiduary of Fiat and was set up as a trading name.

Hi.

No joy - I thought it was a technical guy phoning up after 3 weeks wait, but it was just another operator who tried 3 times to send a signal to my car [as done numerous times over the past month]. She even got me to send a text to her personal mobile from the car to ensure SIM card working [she sounded nice as well, um, may save that number....]

She is now going to email Fiat UK I think with a breakdown of all the work they have tried to do. She thinks it is definitely not the SIM card [as Trudance told me weeks ago]. Will keep you all informed.

Maybe I got it wrong with satellite - I know they need to have 4 or 5 bars on the phone coverage for it all to work, and they send signals from somewhere to the unit.

Stuart

Hi,

Do you have to provide your own sim card for the service, like a Virgin Pay & Go or do they provide one just for the Connect Service.

I should get the car tomorrow, so I will try and get it to work. I'll let you now how I get on.

Poggy

Hi,

Just heard from the garage, it appears that the car will not be here tomorrow after all. Apparently it was on a transporter on Thursday, but it has disappeared somewhere. They are hoping it might arrive today at the garage.

Andy

Hi

'Only hoping'.... probably end up at some Fiat sale at Brighouse - you must be getting really anxious now.

The car does not come with a SIM. I purchased an O2 pay as you go. The slot itself for the card is quite tricky to get out, without scratching the unit. Everything on the card has to be switched off - i.e. call waiting, call diversion, voicemail, etc. I have done everything possible on it, so certain it is not a SIM problem.

The car is about to be picked up by Fiat dealer as we speak. Not for Connect, but they can't work out this long luggage cover - they need to check fixing points, and they are hoping it is not a Factory Fit only part. They have no idea, basically. I think us lot on here know more about it than the dealers!

Another thing I found. In the glovebox, there are 3 A/V sockets. The manual says these are for future expansion [but the manual is also out of date for the version I have]. I tried plugging in a digital camera to see if the screen was a monitor, but nothing. Anyone else with an LCD screen know what or how you use these sockets? I could ask the dealer................
