Fiat have done a great job and have absolutely nailed the design of this car.

It must be the most difficult design brief to update an existing product that itself is unashamedly a retro design and based on an old and much loved car - in this case the original Nuova 500.

I am definitely not in the market for an electric vehicle for numerous reasons, one of which is cost. That may well change in the next few years as the infrastructure improves and economies of scale start to have an effect.

However, looked at purely from the point of view a piece of industrial product design in my opinion this new 500e has desirability in spades and I wish Fiat all the best with it

200 mile range looks promising. Though when it's launched the depreciation on a year old Peugeot e 208 or Vauxhall Corsa e will have been pretty bad. Depends how many of those are out there but huge saving compared to a new 500. Which is probably the same car.

This would have been in development long before the PSA merger

Depreciation of all electric cars is very low at the moment, I wouldn't bank on getting a cheap e208 in a year's time.
Cheapest way into electric at the moment is a Skoda Citigo for £17k, or £19k if you want fast/rapid charging as standard. Looks quite good value by ev standards, with 170 mile WLTP range.
Used 30kWh Leafs with no battery lease are around for a few grand less.

I think it's a beauty!!!

I wondered how they'd approach evolving the 500 design. Was worried they'd do a Mini job... :yuck:

New platform.. FINALLY!
Electric.. finally too!

New auto driving features!

Looks wider / longer too slightly.

Glad to see it. In a few years no doubt we'll get the essentials of it in an all-new Panda :D

2 inch longer, 2 inch wider, and i believe 1.75 inch higher, wheelbase little less then 1 inch longer.

I think the 500e looks good and the price for the standard version looks to be about £27k which is not too bad and compares well to the competition. You also need to remember you can fill the battery for about £3! also many cities across Europe will start and charge fossil fuel powered vehicles so the advantages of electric cars will likely accelerate.

Will be interesting to see if battery prices do drop as more large factories are founded.

Will the electric model have the standard Fiat warranty, or will the new electric cars have a better warranty? Other electric cars have much better warranty deals which making them more attractive, the 3 year fiat warranty is not going to work with a very expensive battery

That's a good question to be fair. Especially with the average non-car persons view of Fiat / Italian cars being problematic with electricals and such.. *cough STILO * cough * lol

I heard an ad on the radio the other day for one of the non-Korean car brands offering a 5 year warranty now as standard... seems like the rest of the makers are trying to go beyond the 3 years now. I hope Fiat does the same on all its cars but they do have a habit of doing the bare minimum to be able to exist..
