Hey Guy's.
I need a new battery for my 1.4 Stilo.
im on a 56 plate.
Need a pretty good one, coz i have alot of ICE in the boot, including 2amps and 2 subs.
any one know which battery i need? is there a specific one?
and how much should i be looking to pay?

Cheers Big Ears (y)

Normally the only restriction is the physical size of battery you can fit in the compartent.
On a stilo i'd have thought the space is about the same on all models so you may be able to get a big battery like the JTD one in there which would give you more omph than you've got at present.

Why do you think your battery has failed within 3 years = too much ICE for the battery

They should last for years, my JTD battery is still going after 6 years and 120,000 miles. I know this is over the average but I do a lot of miles each day so it gets a really good daily charge and not a long discharge when you're sat in a car park with your music blaring - LOL, only joking Coyle

yeh im thinking too much ice, but it shouldnt be that bad, i have a powercap, and i dont have my music overly loud on a daily basis.

The guy in motorworld said only a specific battery would do, and he didn't have on in stock.

So is quality of battery bases on CCA?

Yes there are specific batteries for different cars.

Some of the criteria are:

CCA (Cold Cranking Amps).
A/h (Amps per Hour).
Physical size of the battery.
Terminal Layout.
Hold Down Method.

You need to get at least the minimum specification for your car. If you have extra equipment fitted in the car then you need to increase the specification accordingly.

It's best to get the biggest and highest specified battery that will fit in your battery carrier. For a Stilo, that's a 096 battery.

Having decided what specification you need you can then decide what guarantee you want. This can be from 1 year to indefinately.

Price will vary depending on which manufacturer and length of guarantee.

nice one mate.
so would this be ok:
http://www.carbatteryshop.co.uk/i-027-Numax-Car-Battery-12V-63AH-I979.html

thats the one suited for diesel stilo and stilo abarth?

I've just had a look at that site and it lists the 096 for the alfa 156 1.9 JTD but not for the stilo - i'm sure I've got a 096 in mine ????
The dimensions are bigger for the 096 according to that site though?

How can i tell if the terminal layout is the same as 096?

Its the one used on other higher engined modelled stilo's. So i should be ok shouldn't i?

either way, i need it ordered today, because my car is dead atm :p

Just looked in the catalogue and terminal layout is the same.

027 is slightly longer than the original battery fitted to a 1.4 Stilo. I think there is a white plastic peg in the bottom of the battery tray that stops the battery moving. You will need to move the peg along to it's next hole to fit the 027.

@....minimad99

096 is the Alfa and Stilo JTD battery and is the biggest battery that will fit in the Stilo battery tray.

In view if the Stilo's quirky electrical problems, many people fit it to all Stilo versions.

I would advise anyone (coyle) fitting new battery to any Stilo to buy a 096.

Dave.

If the plastic peg is in the bottom of your battery box, you need to completely remove it to fit the 096.

Depending on the design of the 096 battery handles, you may also need to remove them after placing the battery in the tray. I fitted a new 096 to my JTD recently and the handles were in the way of replacing the battery hold down strap.
