Panda (Classic) My Sisley, Panda 4x4 - division north

Introduction

As mentioned before, I'm starting new thread for my recent purchease.
Bought it from forum user, deposit was place without seeing the car first, went all the way down south with rest of the cash and A-frame in boot.

First summary of the car is ( 1 is very poor, 10 is perfect):

  • Originality - 6,
  • Bodywork - 7,
  • Engine - 6,
  • Gearbox - 5,
  • Interior - 5,
  • Structural rust - 8,
  • Visible rust - 8,
  • Previous owners maintain - 7
Plan for the car is to keep it road worthy and in good mechanical nick, join Panda 4x4 UK club and have some play with other Northern forum members.

As it is now, I'm not willing to make any statement what needs to be done as I had only spend about 2h last week by checking and looking at the car in more details way.

That is my bigger worry for now - bloody milky coolant and a bit of mayo under the oil cap.

How can I confirm my head gasket theory not having coolant presure test kit???
@CLS - your not the only one - aparently it is bloody hard to buy cheepo 4x4 without blown thru head gasket.

The rest of the engine bay seems to be fine,

Did somebody in here mentioned a black silicone gunk as a fast repair?

Dear FFCP section members, any comments, suggestions and observation are more than welcome, especcialy regards the 4x4 drive train i.e. leaks etc.
it take me approx. 40 minutes to get the patch done, 30 min extra for welding and smoothing the weld where required. I'll better get to next one...

I don't have a clue why the corner is missing

IMG_2822.JPG

That's the point where you have to decide is it better to have "one piece" patch or is it faster to weld few flats together. My prefered one are "one-piece" ones.

That bloody corner...I do remember cuttin it off - but why I've done that???

I might by mad, but i've just booked the Hull -Rott ferry for Italia Trip for this car!!!

That's what I call challange, strengely enough two years ago i've been in same situation and tight time schedule with my ex suzuki carry and his preperation to Mangolia Charity Rally.

Did anybody ever drove car onto ferry with number plates of other (panda) car?
Why should that make any difference to them???

Ps. pair of full outer sills just been delivered today, this will save me at least a week.

Floor, inner sill, front wheel arch, front cross membrane are officialy "sound".

Still to do:
front inner sill reinforcement plate, additional 3mm flat plate to go over front cross member, centre cross member- not bother with oe jacking point for now, inner rear wheel arch part 1, trim panel to accomodate new full sill skin, rear inner wheels arch part 2 while outer sill in place, driver side rear sill end patch.

Great progress!
I'm envious of how solid your car is going to be.
Keep it up mate.

That is my problem, I do tend to over-spec things, still needs to decide wich product will be used for future rust protection.
Get new metal welded in is one step, more importants is to protect is right.

Any suggestions guys? I do like the cream OE/Fiat underseal any ideal of the spec?

Don't know mate, it's tight as f**k.
Welding is 70% there from mechanical hubs all round, new rear axle oil seals, hand brake adjusting etc. and get it MOTed and taxed.

It looks like we're in a race, the 750L needs to welding and other bits for MOT - my mate is doing it weekend after next all being well and being MOTed the week before Italy

Quick photo update...
