Panda (Classic) My Sisley, Panda 4x4 - division north

Introduction

As mentioned before, I'm starting new thread for my recent purchease.
Bought it from forum user, deposit was place without seeing the car first, went all the way down south with rest of the cash and A-frame in boot.

First summary of the car is ( 1 is very poor, 10 is perfect):

  • Originality - 6,
  • Bodywork - 7,
  • Engine - 6,
  • Gearbox - 5,
  • Interior - 5,
  • Structural rust - 8,
  • Visible rust - 8,
  • Previous owners maintain - 7
Plan for the car is to keep it road worthy and in good mechanical nick, join Panda 4x4 UK club and have some play with other Northern forum members.

As it is now, I'm not willing to make any statement what needs to be done as I had only spend about 2h last week by checking and looking at the car in more details way.

That is my bigger worry for now - bloody milky coolant and a bit of mayo under the oil cap.

How can I confirm my head gasket theory not having coolant presure test kit???
@CLS - your not the only one - aparently it is bloody hard to buy cheepo 4x4 without blown thru head gasket.

The rest of the engine bay seems to be fine,

Did somebody in here mentioned a black silicone gunk as a fast repair?

Dear FFCP section members, any comments, suggestions and observation are more than welcome, especcialy regards the 4x4 drive train i.e. leaks etc.
A. Plan is to have it moted by end of this week. I've got tommorow off as well as next tuesday to sort out possible failures.

It's tight but looks good.

MOT booked for Friday,

Rear scuttle next to chassis leg end fixed up,

Driver side rear inner sill end bodged up - hope it's will be fine for mot purpouse.

I don't know what is wrong with the hand brake, drums and shoes looks fine and the handle travel is already limited to 4-6 notches. Car will still roll on incline.

Is it possible that the cable has extended a bit? other places to adjust than 3 point joint underneath?
I will give a go with making sure everythink is clean and free .

Handbrake might be to do with that two-part elbow that goes into the drums, if you take the drum off and disconnect the cable you will be able to see if it has play in it. I need to replace this part on mine for the same reason.

Cheers Andy, hope this time it'll be fine with just good service. @Bartpanda any advise on where to look exactly? replacement part? IIRC you've sugested 126p moded to fit panda?

Ill get the new shoes fitted as well, this might add the missing few mm for the over all diametter to cut in.

I'd also be interested in a replacement part for this :)

It may be worth putting a new cable on if you can get one in time, anything to get that extra few millimetres ;)

126p parts are 100% the same except the angle of the arm outside the drum, I could not find original panda parts, so bought set{ left and right} from 126p and cut/weld part from the original panda 4x4 arm, I did not replace the whole part, because there was 1,5mm play in the hole for the pin connecting this parts.

Black is 4x4 set after acid bath and painted, gold galvanised are 126p parts:

I've just drove Sisley 19 miles to my work place as MOT station is next door.

The temp gauge still reads +20*C ( hard to ignore), brakes had some time to wear in.

I'll be supprised if results going to be positive, i'm not expecting it to fail but some work still needs to be done in next few days.

It failed!

Apparently the welder left 20p coin size hole somewhere close to rear susp front leaf mount at driver side.
Verdict- not bad, retest tommorow so i'm shortly off to the unit tohave a look and give the a ring to confirm the location.
