Panda (Classic) My Sisley, Panda 4x4 - division north

Introduction

As mentioned before, I'm starting new thread for my recent purchease.
Bought it from forum user, deposit was place without seeing the car first, went all the way down south with rest of the cash and A-frame in boot.

First summary of the car is ( 1 is very poor, 10 is perfect):

  • Originality - 6,
  • Bodywork - 7,
  • Engine - 6,
  • Gearbox - 5,
  • Interior - 5,
  • Structural rust - 8,
  • Visible rust - 8,
  • Previous owners maintain - 7
Plan for the car is to keep it road worthy and in good mechanical nick, join Panda 4x4 UK club and have some play with other Northern forum members.

As it is now, I'm not willing to make any statement what needs to be done as I had only spend about 2h last week by checking and looking at the car in more details way.

That is my bigger worry for now - bloody milky coolant and a bit of mayo under the oil cap.

How can I confirm my head gasket theory not having coolant presure test kit???
@CLS - your not the only one - aparently it is bloody hard to buy cheepo 4x4 without blown thru head gasket.

The rest of the engine bay seems to be fine,

Did somebody in here mentioned a black silicone gunk as a fast repair?

Dear FFCP section members, any comments, suggestions and observation are more than welcome, especcialy regards the 4x4 drive train i.e. leaks etc.
My kit came through a member at Panda4x4.info which is the Italian club. All the info is between pages 13 and 16 of "My 4x4 - The Muddy Pics" thread. Sorry I can't get a link posted on my phone!

Yes. it is still all un-wraped { and I'm a lazy tw@t)
panda_lift_kit.jpg

I'm still waiting for my fiat parts dealer to get back to me with proper part number for M12 bolt for strut to hub .... as fiat ePer shows same for 2wd and 4wd - we all know that they are different!!

I've found perfect P60 donor car, bloody 200 miles away! Still few weeks of MOT left on it, so probably train collection. Tempted - will see how the action goes.

Had a go with the Sisley's rusted sill ends.

This is how it looks after some brushing out,

IMG_2717.JPG

As you can notice some repairs benn done in past - yes, it is front part of o/s sill welded on n/s back end... does not give my much confidence in the level of previous repairs.

Spend at lest 30 mins poking around with a long spike and decided to go fo it...

RUST PORN

PS. i don't have any repair panels so end effect will not be show room condition but at lest its going to have some strenth

Coser look on

IMG_27293.JPG

As the bottom edge of outer sill is loose, the palne is to cut allong and have this sorted as well

IMG_2718.JPG

Aperently the fllor and outer sill is in good condition, inner sill in approx. 8-10 inches lost his contact with the bottom seem.
IMG_2720.JPG

Will keep me bussy for a while, opposite end does lokk better from outside - i'll just patch this up, i don't want to look inside - for now.

As the time target is tight, I can't waste any more threfore i'm on full power now!

Spend some more time getting the full view of wich areas are badly affected.

Started with lifting the car to reasonable heigh to work on

Ended up with this

Points of concerns are as follow:

- whole front sill corner,
- front half of inner sill,
- jacking point cross-membrane,
- funny bracket bolted to the floor from underneath,
- small part of the floor,
- all not listed.

Front corner

Front floor

Cross membrane

Funny braket, ther is tiny hole thru just next to the plate.

Question: if i'll undo those bolts - does the plate inside gose loose or is it welded to the floor?
IMG_27544.JPG

Floor pan - rear, some bodge job been done thre already - some rust under seatbelt mounting point.

IMG_27521.JPG

IMG_27513.JPG

Top inner sill - easy.

Inner sill - front

Lost to do, i'll be bulding temporary door brace.

Still to decide: cut along outer sill or remove spott welds from top edge/seam and take the whole lot off.

PS. this car was last MOTed December 2013- passed with just few advisories.

Door frame brace mounted in position.

As the longest piece of box steel was actualy to short few cm, i've gone for fully removable type one.

IMG_27672.JPG

Four bolts, few pieces of alluminium and you can actualy rock the shell pretty much. Enough for it's original function.

IMG_27692.JPG

I still need to decide how i want to gain acces to inner sill.

1. Cut along just below door opening - lost of hassle to put back in one piece.
2. Remove spot welds ( bottom edge is already loose) - more to do during removal but will take much less time to put back.

IMG_27711.JPG

Just seen the inner side of read wing, somebody did pull out a fair bit some time ago.

IMG_27733.JPG

IMG_27742.JPG

Much much nicer to work on, when the sill is at my eye level while seat at stool.

As I'm under full steam now - those are results of todays well spend 2 hours.

IMG_27794.JPG

And full scope of what was hiden under the sill.

( comments are welcome - is it bad?)

This plate will have to taken off as there is already 5p size hole next to seat belt mounting point.

IMG_27867.JPG

Other then cosmetics outer sill looks reusable.

Just been out for some metal sheet shoping.

Found local fabrication place/ metal sheet supplier - and picked up two gauge off-cuts.

1.25m x 0.9m in 1mm and 1.25x 0.6m in 1.5mm - all this for £15.

Hope this will sort me out, 1.5mm might be a bit on the high side but will be used on the strenghtening sections inside sill.

As I'll spend more time on repairing various places this will give me less time to put back the original outer sill in place, they far end does require soem serious reconstruction anyway therefore i've decided to go full panel.

Are there any of the outer sill panel ( including A pillar bottom/ rear quarter bottom) available from UK suppliers? panda1408 ? Any know ebay.it seler willing to send panels oversea?

This place can get them:
http://carz2.co.uk

They have a few weeks lead time as they come over from Denmark. panda panda has a pair he bought for Fizzle which are no longer needed, not sure what John's plan with them was?

Hadn't thought really - wall art perhaps?

I'd let them go but really would want what they cost me and I don't think Freddy will want the hassle of posting them so collection only!

I will be going to a few shows later in the year and there's always "the Panda Express" too!

That would be great guys, CLS please let me know what they owe you. Collection is not a problem. I'm awaiting for some German seller to get back to me with delivery costs, but the total might be the same.

Based on what i've seen and MOT history it looks like that the inner sill repair panels were available in early 00`
IMG_2802.JPG

Unless somebody did matched this section from other make/model panel but it had exact same shape and was a pressed out from one piece.

IMG_2803.JPG

I'm just about to start cutting out the rust bits, it might sound easy - but you definately still need a plan to do that right!

IMG_28072.JPG

and rear section

IMG_28091.JPG

Still need to decide how to tackle this one, it's not only the hole thru.
Chassis leg/ floor/ inner wheel arch seam three inches towards the rear is "infected" as well
