My car stopped today on the road... as I accelerated it slowed down and eventually died out. It wouldn't start, but I could hear it desperately trying to...
Phoned insurance, they got RAC out. The guy reckons its a fuel pump. Every time he punched / hit it and I started the car it would start, but as soon as he stopped hitting it it slowly or suddenly died out.
He towed me to my mechanic, who saw and agreed it's a fuel pump issue.
Thank God. I was scared this was a big 'end of life' problem initially.
He told me, get a new pump online and we'll fit it and that'll solve the problem. Don't bother with a second hand one as you're paying for the labour and want a new one to last.
Anyone know where I can get one and must it be genuine? Someone else on here who had a similar problem in the past said Fiat quoted £300?! I was hoping maybe £60.
I don't mind going for a reputable part from Bosch or the likes online? Not sure if it's a single 'fuel pump' or what other parts I'll need, but all I was told was: new fuel pump.
Really appreciate any input on this, thanks in advance.
