Ok i have taken off the cylinder head and bent 10 out of 16 valves in my 1.2 from 40mph the cambelt snapped.
I was on the verge on buying a bravo engine but the mounting bolts were not there.
I got a overheated cylinder head off a punto 16v and skimmed it. my pistons had no damage.
On the crankshaft there is a dimple on the pulley, should that be pointing towards the bulk head of the car of the front of the car?
Also is the camshaft lined up when i use that locking pin that screws in??

Cut 4 EQUAL lengths of dowel.
Turn the crank until the #1 piston is RISING
VERY IMPORTANT ITS RISING
Drop a dowel into each spark plug hole and turn the crank until all are level.
Lock the cams with the appropriate blocks and fit the cam belt.
When its tensioned make sure the crank has not moved (dowels still level). If it has you are a tooth out. Reset the belt and tension again.
Tighten the cam wheel bolts.

2 will do but 4 is better because its easier to be sure they are all level using a straight edge.

Come to think of it you could draw a pencil mark across the four dowels so you don't have to cut them so accurately.
