So not much progress today got the rest of the loom out, engines off the mounts and removed!

And my hands are sore nothing like smashing your hand off the gearbox when the ratchet slips off :(

Fuel pump out and there was half a tank of petrol! Didnt check before i took the loom out :L

So tomorrow i shal collect all the valubles that i can sell on

Paint arrived today a whole 2.5litres of it

Progress will continue tomorrow

Then the wiring begins!

Here it is:

So done a bit more work today :) took a few bits off to sell , after removing the loom from the car i tackled the last job....removing the fuel pump.

i thought this would be a dod all simply turn and its should lift out...

however it would not budge! had the hammer and screwdriver out trying to tap it round after 30mins of trying i got fed up and took(ripped) the tank out :L fuel

however now i have all the bits i need!

i was wondering however , is there not a fuel pressure regulator on this donor car? could use this instead of buying one? would it be a pig to fit?

the wiring looks scary but most of it is not needed , just mainly the engine management side of things i need to keep i believe

on friday all the pieces will be at mine and installation will begin :)

If its like my mpi sei which i assume it is, the fuel regulator is part of the fuel pump assembly.

If it has one single fuel line this is the case as the fuel is regulated from the pump to the rail. Earlier puntos and sei's have two lines.

All done everything i need is off!
However....the log., book for the car has not turned up in the post yet so i cannot squash it
Its well and truley gutted no doors osaturday bootlid no windows no wheels lol
Got a few bits that i might retro fit to the cinq

Interior light and side repeaters

Right maybe a silly question but this engine is 16v why is it so incredibly thin!
Am i right in saying its twin cam? They must be tiny pulleys lol

I have a rough idea what il need to do with the wiring.
use the entire 16v engine loom and connect the wires at the d4 connector for the fuel pump ignition etc
And fit the body computer behind the dash and connect pedal to it and rev counter wire fuel line

And tape the key to the aerial thingy

Should i remove any of the loom on the cinquecento (dashboard side?)
Ooh and good news found a friend thatl do my bumper exit exhaust with a box :D
No progress tomorrow as i got my new job induction and then my other job on friday and saturday so maybe sunday il start cleaning the cinq engine bay so i can paint it grind the mount and drop her in!
Once running ill address the bodywork (arch rolling, dents, smooth bonnet and boot)
Referb the wheels and buy some bolt on mods (suspensio exhaust filter maybe a chip,)

I am not 100% sure but i think there is only one pulley like the 8v? It only has one cam? I am not sure how the other valves are actuated tho!

I think it makes it difficult to set valve timing indepently. As the relationship between the two sets of valves cant be changed. Ie with vernier pulleys. Altough as there is no keyway for the pulley it acts like a vernier anyway?

Ah cool, knew i had read they only had one pulley!

This is a very interesting project, keep it up! Look forward to more updates!

as ming has pointed out there will be ONE pully were your cambelt goes around , and at the Coilpack side (iirc) there is two Cogs on the end of the cams that makes them both turn at the same time and then in thery they shiuld be no problem with looseing timeing between the two cams

Soo had a bit of free time today so decided to give the engine bay a lick of paint
i tried the grey but its awfully hard to cover the yellow so decided on a gloss black , dirt will blend in ;)

i used brake cleaner and a scotch pad to get the dirt off , came off a treat , after used a de-greaser in my parrafin sprayer(attached to compressor) left to set the used compressed air to blow off and then sprayed WD40 in the connectors to disperse the moisture

applied two coats , so i think 1 more should do it

would of done something else however had to change a header tank, thermostat and do a mini service on my mums MGF (absolute nightmare) (n)

will apply another coat tomorrow , then clean the engine up

i noticed my bumpers are a bit tatty however the brackets at the edges ( the ends that wrap around have snapped and leave a noticeable gap

soo..

as its a budget project and its a matte paintjob im goona get some Neon cable ties and do the "drift like stiching" effect to tidy it up thought itd be cool , tempted to call a friend who does banded steels from £40 a corner

what would be the ideal width front and rear if i did get these? 13" or 14" bearing in mind i want it slammed.....

right an update!

the engine is in after swapping over various components! its all very tight the inlet against the heater was a right pig!

i did paint the engine bay however was a waste of time as its all scratched off getting the engine in

there was a moment of panic when i couldnt get a headlight in.....then realised you have to scrap the cambelt cover

tbf you could leave the battery tray in it just makes it harder to get engine into position.... i took mine out as i have a smaller battery that doesnt require a massive tray (one out the punto) and fits nicely in the left over space

put everything back together suspension wise (lower arms , track rod ends arb) stuck it on wheels

this morning i thought id get out before it started raining and whipped the dash out and got the pedal off too (as im retaining original punto loom and fly by wire and splicing the wires at the d4 for ignition fuel pump etc)

all is well however im slightly confused about the plumbing correct me if im wrong but do i keep the cinq water pipe and funky 4 way pipe?

other than that all is well!

then once its running then il tackle body work

cheers :)

buying a new radiator next week as the old one was shot (ebay original replacement)

then i can sort the wiring out i plan on running 2 looms (cinq one for all the interior and lights etc and using the punto loom purely for the engine side of things

i removed the pedal and am going to need a fabricate a bracket to mount the pedal to as it sits too far back if i mount it directly to the firewall

another thing also , the gearbox had an electronic speedo however there was a mechanical speedo drive already installed (had a plastic cap over it

can i use this one or will i have to swap the cinq one for it?

i need to order another sensor too its the one on the gear selector (what is it? reverse light?)

weather has been appauling so have been doing the work with the nose of the car in the garage (garage has loads of punto bits in the way lol)
