Right started the engine swap yesterday, took the engine out, all seems to be in order, nothing bent lol, however the amount of "foliage" round the heater matrix was a Joke , have also started taking the selector off the gearbox , and have taken the driveshaft cups out along with a few other bits , will be degreasing the bay then painting it black before the new engine goes in as well as sprucing up the new engine with a lick of paint and some new gaskets and water pump, progress will continue on monday when il be taking the engine out the donor car (punto mk2b) watch this space

i have thought of those factors as well thinking some matching springs and shocks , bigger (or better quality) brakes on the front and maybe a rear disc conversion , wheel spacer to widen the track a bit for handling(and clearing the gearbox) and maybe a cheeky bit if camber ;) , styling wise arches are being rolled going for a military themed matte dark grey paint with the standard sporting alloys in black , and just sourced a abarth body kit for around £80

but all in good time want to get all the mechanical and oily jobs out the way before i start spending money on it looking nice (y)

after looking at the mk2 16v punto wiring diagram its just a case of taking the pedal and sensor out and fitting the pedal in the cinq , as it plays no part with the in car ecu (canbus system) thank god! :worship:

Good luck with the project.. Subscribed ;)

how much dose the 16v conversion affect your insuance as when i added a 1.2 8 v in it crippled my insurance

exact reason i don't really recommend the 1242 8v as a swap, the difference in performance does not justify the jump in insurance cost. Not for a new driver at least anyway which alot of cento's owners are these days.. Clearly for us older chaps and chap-esses its not so much of a big deal but a mildly tuned 1108 8v will not really be outdone by a 1242 8v in most circumstances. Just has a bit more low down torque which makes them better about town and general slow stuff but the difference in out and out speed is not something to get really excited about. 16v is completely different story, the 1.4s are quick but the 1.2s are pretty rapid too when stuffed in a cento.

cheers for the advice from all of you , the insurance does jump up a fair bit about £700 but from what my brother says there one of the best insurers for modified cars , (mates dad also has his Countach replica insured with them)

i would like a nice gloss but its my first attempt of spraying a car with a gun , matte was the easy option and less chance of runs etc , if i hate it il practice and go over with some 2k clear and itl have some shine :)

right no spacing at the rear then :p , there has been no development since i had the engine out , arranging a date to go to my mates house (where my donor car is stored) to get the engine out

,no thrills in this car , back seats and carpet will be removed , may get a side bumper exit exhaust (side of front bumper) since no-one seems to have done it on here , i see it as extra weight ;)

Would love to get more information about this as you do the conversion. How complicated is the wiring on these? am in the process of planning my own 16v conversion.

Looks really good, look forward to more updates!

Do you have a link to the wiring diagram or is it fromhaynes etc?

have looked at a few polish seicentos on youtube with the 1.4 tjet , there insane! 1.5bar of boost in a car that a few people can pick up , once tuned a definate redtop killer! ;)

i will be going into depth with the wiring side , as that seems the hardest bits ,i have had experience with car electrical systems its just a case of what wire joins up to the original cinquecento loom ,

im just using the wiring diagrams in the back of haynes manuals for both models

however,

i have got hold of the fiat dealer servicing software for all the mk2-mk2b models
so all the wiring diagrams and diagnostics is on there

after the conversion i will post p some home made diagrams (what colour wires go to punto loom etc in regards to this conversion)

saves a lot of hassle for people wanting to do the conversion themselves

will probably get the manifold made from scratch so it has the right angle to go out the bumper and obviously a silencer (neigbours would not be happy)

get paid on friday so progress should start :slayer:

So Here it is!
601408_10151257077720388_360564551_n.jpg

its a 1.2 active sport with 60,000 miles and FSH

it only has the 5 gears same as the cinq , but is it worth using the new box , better ratios?

got the car for £150 which i thought was a bargain :)

will be selling some bits to make my money back

il have to put some picture of the insane positive camber on the rear wheel haha

so going to start stripping it out tomorrow as i have the whole week off
probably going to cut the slam panel and rip it off as the car will be scrapped after saves me putting it on stands and having to lower the engine down plus its fun :slayer:

the damage isnt that bad , luckliy theres alot of room between the engine and crossmember :worship:

i got quoted by a guy on ebay breaking a stilo 1.2 16v and for all the bits for the conversion he wanted in excess of £500!

started stripping the car today , as im breaking the car alot is being removed!
so i got the dash out and was left with the wiring!

now this is where im confused , of course this is my first fiat ive worked on , am i right in saying that the fusebox and ecu are one complete unit? something like this?

can someone point me in the right direction of where all this stuff is?

the ecu
fusebox
body computer

oh and my positive camber as promised

Ahh i think what you mean, has the 2 giant plugs on it, thought it wasnt it as its rather small compared with the cinquecento ecu, and obviously having two plugs instead of 1

Wel il play it safe and take all of the loom just in case :)

It so much simpler taking the car apart knowing that its going to the scrapyard after ;)

Was a tense moment when removing the air bags (sundays top gear equivalent!)

Gonna get the grinder out tomorrow and make it easyier to get engine out (chop through the front crossmember)

Made my money back on the car already so its gonna be spent on tarting this one up (clutch, water pump, some red enamel paint maybe ;)

Gonna see if i can retro fit the punto componet speakers in the cinq (tweeter where original speaker goes and woofer somewhere in the door maybe)

But thats for afterward

Got my scotch pads and the paint delivered think il take the wing off the punto and paint it to see the outcome and shall post a picture of result

Once all the bits are off and what i want to sell is taken the car will get squashed, all the parts come to mine and then can annoy everyone with 2 wiring looms on the dining room table haha

Got my copy of autodata to help me along, will keep the loom as it is then once it runs i can reduce it down last thing i want is to remove the wrong wires or plugs

Soo anothers day work on the car tomorrow so il update this thread later on

There is alot of stuff online that makes this sound like a scary job. But having looked at quite a few different marques and models with airbags and their wiring diagrams (the internet scared me so i had to look at how they were wired in before taking them out lol) i'm now pretty convinced in all cars if you have taken the battery off the airbags just cannot go off. But good to hear you got safety in mind while doing this (y)

Just for info i have removed airbags for various reasons from a several merc's, several fiats, a ford & a vauxhall. Maybe more but they are the ones that i remember off top of my head.
