Your r^2 value is close to zero because there's little correlation due to a wide spread of data points for a short time period :) That line is really an average rather than a line of best fit of any use.

Yup thats what i though and if they were all the same or one 45 one 46 repeating then Rsq would =1, and yea that would be the average over the period.

I worked out that my Brava JTD is doing 61mpg!!!

Which is bloody amazing as I do fill up £45ish and get over 600 miles so I worked out roughly what it is.

Now the Honda Insight/ Toymota Prius claim 60+MPG. Rubbish we had a new Insight demonstrator at Honda when I was there, and a guy took it to Slough for a training course at Colnbrook and could only manage 39mpg.

Hmmmm!!! Wanna save money, buy a cheap Fiat JTD and get excellent MPG or spend £16000 and get 39mpg:rolleyes:

Fiat power wins(y)

The way some of you guys are trying to add additional features to the spreadsheet makes me think you work for the NHS or a council. If it works and gives the basic information required, why bother with variables, colours, additional columns, types of fuel put in before 10.00AM on a Sunday in June etc.

The information produced is probably unneccesary and inaccurate so you'll end up modifying it even more and then loose touch with the original concept.

Me, I use the computer on the MW and that has proved to be accurate to within .5 of a mile

Think the point is that not all FIATs have a nice little computer, and i do agree putting in idiling times etc is a bit stupid, but as for conditional formating, ie colours etc it makes it clear where you add the variables, you get a green light or red light so to say on your mpg. Extra info is cost per mile which tbh is the most important thing to me with petrol prices fluctuating. Graph so you can track any abnormalities (a way to spot problems with the car) bet the MW doesnt do that  .

And in no way were any of us suggesting that you have to use our sheets, i posted mine as i couldnt get the date axis formated properly, and needed it fixed.

As with any expensses it is always a good idea to track your usage/spend so you can budget if needed.

And tottaly agree that the JTD is an excellent engine, got one for my sisters Punto for that very reason. (y)

it wasnt a serious suggestion, simply a gibe at the inaccuracy of the spreadsheet. adding variables will increase the accuracy of the mpg figure if those variable can be measured accurately in the first place. since non of the info used in the spreadsheet can be measured accurately there is little point in adding variables or indeed anything else. if a consistent method is used then a significant change in the mpg figures could be taken as an indication that a change in true mpg has occured. nothing more.

how has your trip computer been proven to be accurate to within half a mile?

Ok so made up a nice one wiht some conditional formating so it goes green when above your set mpg and red below, also a chart but cant get the dates to work with the chart, can someone adjust been so long since i did it. You set the mpg level for red and green etc...

Attached to this as a zip as cant attach xml files. If someone can rejigg and post back here or to me then that'd be great.

Really useful, thanks for that

Well - Im nearly empty (i think) So i'll be using my MPG Sheet to calculate my MPG! excellent - it will a little off but It'll be round about the calculated figure which is what im looking for! (IM SO EXCITED!)

use it as has already been suggested. fill up tank to max, reset trip milage to 0, drive as much as you want (say down to quarter tank) then fill up and note how many litres you filled to get back to max and how many miles it says on trip. then note them down and reset trip milage. this way you use a full tank as a reference point, which is far more accurate than "Im nearly empty (i think)"

By filling up to the brim, setting the trip on 'B' running it down then refilling, the calculated figure was checked against the given consumption figure and that's how I checked the accuracy.
