Ok so made up a nice one wiht some conditional formating so it goes green when above your set mpg and red below, also a chart but cant get the dates to work with the chart, can someone adjust been so long since i did it. You set the mpg level for red and green etc...

Attached to this as a zip as cant attach xml files. If someone can rejigg and post back here or to me then that'd be great.

i still dont see how you know when you've used up the correct amount of fuel? what promts you to decide you've used £60?

Just random i suppose a full tank for me 60litres is £50odd just stuck in a value. Was just random values to check formatting was working. Also i would have a bit if i'd used 99/97/95RON etc. although that would be based on the fact i had done so previously as thats the miles i'm using etc.

ok, but imagine you were doing it for real. how would you know when you had used exactly £60 worth of fuel? if you dont know that then you cant know how many miles you did on £60.

Well it wouldnt be exact, but i always fill the tank right up. So start with tank full then zero miles, do whatever say 300 fill right up again say costs 30 thus 37mpg at 0.83per litre.

And also i wouldnt take idelling etc into account as thats getting pedantic and is only as a rough guide.

How about a bit of VBA scripting to allow for different currencies, LPG/CNG/ANG multifuels, recording of where the fuel came from and future forcasting of costs, then you could also have the ability to enter different units and put in litres rather than amount @ pence per litre...

On the other hand, I just use a calculator and memory ;)

oh right now i get it! so to work out how much fuel you've used you would see how much it takes to fill up next time. well thats got to be the most accurate method possible, but i never fill up so i cant do that, havent even had more than half a tank unless i'm driving down south (extra weight of fuel = less speed :D)

It's not perfect though as I said, I got 57 MPG last week (I always fill up to maximum) because the brand new pumps at tesco obviously have better vapour release.

I made you a new graph rather than fix yours, I sorted out the formatting of your data column which was probably the cause, my machine is set up for a funny date system (long story!) so let me know if it shows up incorrectly, it shows up fine for me.

Your r^2 value is close to zero because there's little correlation due to a wide spread of data points for a short time period :) That line is really an average rather than a line of best fit of any use.

hmmm, 35quids worth of petrol gets me about 190-200miles, oh the joy of owning a 1.3 turbo lol -_-
