A lot of you folks have been around a lot longer than me and have some very different takes on technology and politics. Here’s a good contemporary one you’ve all likely heard about worth discussing / ranting / praising…

The government now requires no-no websites to either scan your face and upload it to a third party company, or upload your government ID / drivers license.

Too much surveillance… too little too late, or actually appropriate - what do you think?

My take: I hate to wear the tinfoil hat, but I think it’s to stamp down on anonymity more than to protect children. After all, if they’ve got your ID / face clearly on file…. Are you going to really hide behind a username or post in the same way? Always VPNs for now. But other countries will follow if our government gets away with this. And they’re already conducting a 6 month review into how VPNs can be used to circumvent this law (as if they wouldn’t have known that from its inception). I’d love to blame Labour for this… but turns out it was the Conservatives?! Now I’m one of the many who feel whichever way we vote next time, we’re screwed anyway when it comes to things like this :-(
