I take it this is instant MPG not the trip average. The instant MPG is highly variable. it may be low double digits under hard acceleration or up hill and over a hundred with your foot off the throttle down hill. This is normal. Many cars have a top limit of 99.9 MPG so as not to show implauasible figures. It's only really useful to see if changing gear makes a ifference at steady speed or as a reminder not to press so hard when accelerating unless you need to. If you really know you car and use instant consumption reguarly on a specific bit of road and speed it can give an indication of problems if consumption goes up under those specific conditions.
