I have recently replaced both front hub assemblies on my Mk2 Punto. However, my OSF wheel no longer fits on properly. I can get one wheel bolt all the way in but the other three tighten up before the wheel properly meets the hub.

Is it possible the wrong hub was supplied? Or its maybe damaged in some way?

I fitted the OSF wheel to the NSF hub so I've ruled the wheel out.

I bought both of them both from Puntos-r-us on ebay.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well lastnight confirmed that one of the hub threads is rogered!:bang:

All 4 bolts went through the other three other holes much and such the same distance but the other hole, they would only go in a couple of threads.

Am I right in saying that the thread pattern for the hubs/bolts is M12 x 1.25? I could borrow a tap set from work and try to clean out the thread.

for such a critical component, I would buy new.

If I understand your OP correctly, you've unfortunately been burned with a bad second hand unit. It may have been why the part was scrapped in the first place.

I've just searched for that seller on ebay. Those hubs are indeed used.

However, they are listed as used, but in full functional order. You should be able to reclaim your money through ebay.

Remember, consumer protection law means that the buyer does not have to prove that the part was not faulty (i.e. there is no legal standing for "buyer beware" or "sold as seen"). Good must always be fit for purpose.

i may find it very difficult to claim money back as I bought it in the middle of last year and hAve only found out noW. On the upside, it looks like ive not left feedback.

Any idea of the price for a new hub? I fear for my wallet as the bolts alone to the strut were £13 each!

Mine failed it's Mot today due to the front hub, so new hub, wheel bearing, bolts and labour =£228 ouch!!!

Failed on the hub, or the bearing?

To the OP, the stock bolts are pretty soft, as are the hubs. If they'll torque up to the manufacturer's settings after tapping, I'd be happy to use them. Failing that, you might try a helicoil.

i would just buy another s/h hub
the hub to strut bolts are reusable
puntos do have a bit of a problem with stripped threads on the hubs i guess its down to operator error if they try windy gunning up if wheel not sat on hub face properly

Thanks all for your input. I got another complete hub carrier, bearing, flange, disc and retaining bolts for £20 at a scrap yard 'locally'. Going to swap it out when I get the chance.

Having checked the prices at the local stealers, nothing is cheap!

Hub Carrier £270
Bearing Kit £105

Thats what had me looking for one at a local scrap yard!
