Hi set off in my 500x and it started misfiring and lost power then engine management light came on and said check engine I had only drove down road so limped it home and on way power came back but engine management light has stayed on, has any body had same issue or any advice please

If the engine management light is on, it means there is an error code in the ECU.

You can get that read and it will point you in the right direction.

If yours is a 1.4, it could be a problem with a coil, for example, which is not as serious as the symptoms sound) .. or you could have a faulty lambda sensor etc. The car goes into limp mode when it thinks something fairly serious has gone wrong but if it's a sensor at fault then the actual "fault" is the sensor, so it's fairly simple to fix.

I had this recently and codes read misfire on cylinders 1 and 3, put some new plugs in and swopped the coil packs to eliminate them, turned out new plugs did the trick, they still had 3k left to service interval but not the end of the world

Hi what was wrong with your car in the end mine is doing the exact same thing same car x
Hi had it plugged in to 3 different machines and nothing, mine misfires and goes in to limp mode and when I pull in and turn it off for minute or two I start it back up and runs fine but engine management light still on for awhile before it goes off, I've been down motorway today and on way back it's done it twice, so going to get it plugged in to see if it comes up with something with with it doing it twice today if some come up will let u know

Diesel or petrol…if diesel, possibly the EGR

THey tried spark plugs that didnt solve it ..i drove it off the garage and right back to them as engine light came on .. it ended up needing a whole new air filter system 2k 😔

Is this fault code p1471? We have this issue and it's mega frustrating. The likely solution I've come across is that it might need an ECU software update, I'm trying to check this out if I get a result I'll update here but I hate having to approach Fiat dealer service departments, our local one is full of rude desk staff and staff that just drift about doing nothing. The best nearby dealer we had has lost the franchise. If it is software it's really weird that a car can run fine for several years then start doing this. It brings up a fault, goes into limp mode and disables stop start. If I stop the car give it a minute and restart every time it will run perfectly! If it doesn't recur for a few start ups the engine warning light then goes off but the code is stored. The more concerning possible fault could be the multiair unit. In over 40 years of owning Italian cars I think this is the first time that I'm totally stumped!
Incidentally the firefly engine versions have a security gate so unless you or your independent garage have a SGW bypass connector you will have limited access via the OBD.
