Mini DV to PC

Anyone know of any device that I can put a Mini DV tape into and then download its content to my PC (from the tape)?

I have seen it is possible with a cable (by Googling) but not sure if I need a Firewire or USB lead.
My computer has no firewire ports on the motherboard, so I wondered if it was possible to get Firewire to USB?

I would also need to be able to edit my videos after converting them - anyone know if this is possible?

It's really easy (and cheap) to add a firewire card to your PC. Slots in nice and easily. If you go to (can't believe I'm about to say this) PC World, they have a range of un-branded hardware components. Have a look for the firewire cards (comes with a cable). Should be under a tenner. They work fine!!

I had nothing but trouble when trying to get video from my MiniDV camera via USB.

As for editing them, I just used the bundled software (can't remember what it is, not used it for a while).

Yeah - I've just been looking in the user manual and it would seem that after reading some reviews on Ciao, it only has a firewire port.
My PC is custom built so that should be attachable with few problems.

I'm just sick of copying things onto DVD and then ripping the DVD onto the PC!
