Hi All

Iam looking for a little advice and help please:),iam sorry if this has been covered before but iam sure this may be a little different??

Well for those of you that don't know me i drive a 1998 R reg Cinquecento 1.1 1108cc Fire Sporting and currently its running on a stock ecu and chip, but a friend of mine has just gave me his old ecu from his 96 Sporting that he no longer has which was fitted with a Mckrich chip, iam sorry i have no codes from my stock ecu that is fitted to my car at present nor do i have any codes with this new ecu fitted with the Mckrich chip to hand but i can get them if needed not a problem or even Photos of inside of this ecu with this Mckrich fitted if needed(y),

Now with regards to my car it still has the cat fitted but this will be getting removed during the winter as iam starting to get it ready for track use next year,it has already a straight through centre exit exhaust with a focus induction kit but other than that there are no other engine related modifications, yet:)

Question 1).Can this ecu with Mckrich chip fitted work with my car??,

Question 2).Should i have got keys with this ecu as i have none nor does he have any:(,

Question 3).If this is going to work with my car what is the procedure for removing my ecu and replacing it with this one?vice-versa if i need to fit the other stock ecu back on,

I think i have covered all i need to cover other than codes and such like but as i said i can get them if needed,

Thanking you in advance for you help

All the best Donald

Fitting the ECU complete is as simple as unplugging the old one and plugging the new one in.

If the ECU has no code then you should not have a problem with it in your car.

If there is a problem, which I doubt, remove the chip from the ECU and fit it into your ECU.

Cheers

Sorry to spam, quick question......

If you have a 99 sei sporting spi, will a cinq or punto 1.1 ecu work thats pre-immobilser??

Sorry i don't know:eek: cheers Scuderia

Thanks for your reply:cool: so iam i right in saying then its just a case of unplugging my present ecu and then replacing it with this new ecu with Mckrich chip fitted and thats it? job done:) sounds good to me,

and then the reverse for fitting my stock ecu back if needed?cheers

Oh sorry i can't put the Mckrich chip into my own 98 ecu as the stock one thats fitted at present is solderied in,

There are two flavours of chip the uncoded meaning the chip disables the imobilliser so you can use any ECU but you also do need to unplug the code box. Remember as it disables the vehicle security your insurance will be effected unless you fit a certified after market cat 2 .

There is also the coded version, All you need for this is to supply Mick with the details of the label on the chip of your current ECU no red keys or other codes needed.

Hi thanks for your reply(y)i have not got any numbers to hand for both ecu's but i will get them, when i had the back of the ecu today with the Mckrich chip fitted if my memory serves me well the chip was green and red in colour but thats all i can remember:eek:,i will get numbers tomorrow and then hope Mick see's this thread and helps me along a little??

Sorry to sound dumb where is the code box located:)

Sorry your link is'nt working unless its me:eek:??

This would only work if you got the Decoded McKrich cheap else the immobilizer will stop you from starting the car!

Ming

Hi thanks for your reply, iam not 100% but i think it is as his immobilizer was not working with this ecu with Mckrich chip fitted so i guess that means its decoded???i guess the only way iam going to find this out is to get the numbers off the chip and see if Mick can help to answer my questions for sure, thanks for your help

Well the only thing changes is that you wil lreset your ecu and will take mile for the ecu to relearn interms of actual harm , none :) (assuming everything was working before)

Ming

Thanks for your answers Ming(y)and everyone else;),i will try a test switch over at the weekend, with regards to my Cento it running sweet as a nut at the minute so fingers crossed it runs even better after the switch over, cheers

if you get an uncoded chip, just whack it in the ecu you got, plug it up, and away you go.... well in a "my car isnt right" kinda way, until the ecu relearns its parameters

then you can tackle the code box ;)

the other option is getting a coded chip to put in your current ecu, but give that your cinq is an R reg, its the soldered type, which makes it a bit trickier to instal the chip itself, but still okay if you know what your doing when it comes to soldering :)

that way has the advantadge of no code box fiddling or installing aftermarket ecu's to appease the insurance people... just the declaring of the chip to be done then :)

if you search for the ecu thread, that will cover the main points and help decide what options best for you :)

Do not expect it to run better straight away. In fact it may run like a burst ass for the first 300 miles, don't panic.

Code box is attached to the steering column above the fuse box.

Hi thanks for the tips,i must say iam not looking forward to it running like **** but hay if thats the down side i guess i will just have to put up or shut up:Dcheers the for code box location(y)

I really only want to run it when out on the track but if its going to run like **** every time i change them over:( i think in the long term i will get a coded chip??

Here are some pics i took this afternoon,

The 1st pic is my current stock ecu that its running on at present

The 2nd pic to the top right is the donner ecu with Mckrich chip fitted that i think is uncoded??maybe Mick could answer this for sure??

and the rest of the pics are of the new donner ecu opened up as i needed to check if it was fitted with a chip not that i didn't believe my friend:eek: and it clearly was fitted :D it has now had the chips holding clip replaced back on and the backing plate placed and resealed so all i have left to do now is test it out, which i have to say iam scared too:eek::eek::D as i said before the car is running so sweet iam afraid to change then over and then have to change them back for the car to then run like ****:( iam sure that will not be the case??

Thanks for everyones help its much appreciated(y)

Cheers Scuderia

Don't bother changing it for the track -- just leave it in.

Hi fingers iam sure thats what iam going to have to do but i was planning on keeping the car road legal so i can still drive it from house to track but this leaves me with the problem:( because its uncoded i think?? iam going to have to now fit a cat 2 immobilizer but i guess i may well have to to keep it road legal and to also keep the insurers sweet,

Cheers Scuderia

The insurers are probably not going to go apopoleptic about it (but should be informed).

Probably find someone to fit a Cat 1 immobiliser (rather than alarm) for £100 if you like.

Yeah i think your right iam going to have to bit the bullet and spend a little more than i first thought,or buy a coded chip for my cars ecu and solder it in as my cars ecu chip is soldered in on my R plate, thats not a problem iam trained that way as i worked for Marconi for years soldering pcb boards so i could go down that route??

Thanks for your help
