has my grande punto driving days come to an end. Dads mate has just decided to sell his ford capri 2.8l special edition similar to the one picture below. i have always admire it for its sheer power and the fact that its an old car that can still kick ass in the modern day car market.

Not tax exempt, that 1972 and before.
However this year £185, it's before carbon emissions scale.

If you go for the buy watch out in the wet, unless it has had a LSD fitted.
They step out very easily, if I remember correctly it has leaf springs on the back as well which don't help.

From the pics it seems well looked after.

I can understand the idea, it's just I prefer a different manufacturer.

While I like my Grande Punto, no one has ever stopped me in a car park or petrol station and asked about it.

but why should they:confused: unless they are a fellow owner but people dont talk to each another thesedays anyway as they are on the PC all the time.

I've had people ask if they can take pictures.
On Friday morning I had a 5min chat in a petrol station about
the Norfolk tractor.

The one I hate is when I'm asked if it's a DeLoren.....

People of a certain age still chat off line. ;)

I get asked questions about my car quite a bit in petrol stations, one bloke thought it was a Focus :bang:

I really like Capris, Id have a 2.8 Brooklands in my fantasy garage, end of the day though its still only a shonky old Ford, not exactly a day to day car. looks a good example though

Give it a few days for the novelty to wear off and you will hate it. Group 14 insurance and late teens to the galllon wont help

How many times has the g/box been rebuilt and the strut-tops been welded  ?

I have a soft for Capri's even though there so flawed....

As regards kicking ass, don't be so sure...similar to my GPS on the straights and probably worse around the bends, I spent many a happy weekend as a passenger in my mate's 2 litre S and as I recall it handled like a barge, even with a bag of sand in the boot! hahaha

Ah the Ford Capri......Brings back memories for my age group:D
It was based on a Mustang, but developed here in the UK.

There is still a huge following. Most were not that fast & originally did not handle that well as said.
The 3ltre i think was the fastest production car in its day. We were promised a Cosworth version but that did not materialise. This would have been some tool indeed(y) Instead we got the Brooklands, still quite a machine for the time.

These cars at the time were a proper 2x2 coupe aimed at the young family man who wanted sporty looks & real space inside the car....

What you have to remember, back then, when i was a young guy, it caused quite a stir. Nothing like this had been seen on the market.
It was unveiled at the 1969 Brussels Motor Show:cool: Believe you me it caused qute a stir as i said.....
£900 would get you a basic model back then:D

The grande punto will be staying. Spoken to dad and it will be a car that is kept just for the memories. i watched a top gear the other day. it was a very old one. had the girl off fifth gear on it. she was in the capri and clarkson was in a hudson hsu i am sure thats what it was. it had a 5.4ltr v8 american built and the capri ripped the **** out of it. i have always loved these cars. dont know why. i just reckon back in the day they made cars for speed and safety wasnt an issue. i wouldnt insure the car as it would sit in the garage so a sorn would be in use untill i was older and couple appreciate and drive it more. its a 2.8l injection would love a brookelands myslef but the cost of them and parts now is just out the window. may not be the greatest car to look at but it is a great piece of ford history which i would liek to own.
