Technical  Making new remote keys

Technical  Making new remote keys

So as an update. I bought a brand new KM100e from Auteldiag for £285. I bought a spare remote key from AliExpress for £9 inc delivery. They all arrived at the same time. I took my daughters original key and the new blank spare from AliExpress to a local key cutter whom cut the key for £9. I watched a YouTube video on how to program the keys with the KM100. Twice.
The third time watching the video, I followed the process with my own KM100e, and now have two working remote keys for my daughters Fiat 500 2013. If anyone is in Inverness and wants a spare blank key they need coding, I’ll do it for £20. You’ll have to buy your own blank keys and get the blades cut yourself though.

I even bought some self adhesive logos to stick on the button for £3 from AliExpress.

Bearing in mind everything that has been said in the thread - what is the point of the procedure as mentioned in the 2nd post? This post suggests MES can do this, but later on apparently only this Auteldiag KM100e tool can program the keys, and MES can't?

EDIT: Apparently might be something to do with "pre-coding" ? i.e. Keys provided by a dealer against your VIN or Fiat's generally would be pre-coded, and could be programmed using MES, but complete blanks like you get from Aliexpress, etc can't? That about right?

My understanding is as you have said. And all this to stop owners getting another key. It sure as hell doesnt stop criminals, or even slow them down!

@ben do you think you could add a category or tag to the directory for people with an Autel KM100e (or similar) that are willing to program blank ebay keys? The map is really useful to find someone nearby. Just noticed the "Auto Locksmiths" category - is that for official ones only or anyone with the tool?
@typecastboy and @fiatnumpty might be your first customers?

And as a summary if I have this right:
MES can:
  • Recreate the list of keys you currently have available, and are already programmed to the car (aka precoded), in the BCM so they work as ignition and remote keys. These keys can only be obtained from the dealer or an auto-locksmith with the relevant tool (Autel KM100, etc). Needs the car PIN code to work. WARNING: Any unavailable keys will be permanently blocked from future use. Cannot program/write keys at all?
An Auto-locksmith/Autel KM100/similar can:
  • Program a blank key PCB to the car, even chinese ebay ones, as a completely independent ignition & remote key. Needs access to the car OBD
  • Clone an existing key (uses the same codes as the other key so could screw up if they use rolling codes) - I guess possible if no access to the car but not as good as above?
  • Add a single key to the car rather than replace the whole list?
  • Replace the whole list the same as MES above
@typecastboy when programming a blank ebay key, do you put the key physically into the Autel KM100 while connected to the car OBD?

Yes you do, you have to be with the car and you also have to relearn any existing keys otherwise it will brick them.
