General Mad engine swap idea, how idiotic is this?

I own a 98 s seicento sporting which is completly standard I have seen everyone saying about alfa engines and a b16 but is it possible to put a fiat coupe 2.0 lump in the engine bay

what is the general opinion on the fast engine without compromising handling really bored of my mates leaving me 4 dead in there 172 clios and such

You'll have to do the power to weight stuff yourself, but a 1.4 16v will give you aound an honest 110bhp with aftermarket Ecu. Weighs maybe 20 kg more than the stock car.

For more than that, you're really talking turbos and big money/reliability/handling "Oh my God I'm going to die!" issues.

I recon T Jet is possible, but everything else needs to be optimised or you're likely just to torque steer into the nearest ditch.

Cheap way, (although I don't like them), buy a Coupe Turbo.

You'd be better off sourcing an ek b16 jdm type R engine as its race prepped and a bit lighter than standard b16's. not only that your looking at a few more horses. Add some fatter rubber and punto GT brakes, a upper / lower strut brace, stripped interior and some decent coil overs, I'd say that would be an ideal track weapon! It's all about power to weight! :slayer:

All this is very help fully and I had toyed with the idea of selling and upgrading to a hgt punto but little Linda is as much part of the family as my partner is the b16 conversion a pricey task to do

true, but saying that, a standard b16 from a uk ek vti wouldnt set you back a huge amount if you found one at a scrappy or someone breaking one? I can imagine you would need a decent budget but if you can jam a 2.0 16v red top from an astra :)yuck:) into one, a civic engine could be quite a bit cheaper, and more fun, esp when you hit vtec ;)

well people have had red tops/bike engines it these so there are people with the skills, budget, time and skill to do it. its just a case of taking it as far as you can. As far as I can tell, its easier to do something like a 1.2 / 1.4 conversion, but why do something someone else has done? imo if your going to do something and you have the skills / budget, its going to be different to what has been done before. If the budget isnt there then you make the best of what you have got, but still make it different

Yes, there are such people, fortunately.

The real reason to do the 1.2/1.4 is that we know it works and -- in most cases -- there's bugger all in the way of fabrication involved.

Get into other engine transplants and you're talking serious structural modifications, one off driveshafts, DIY gear linkeages, etc.

But, yes, if someone is aware of just what's required, why not?

Can't believe no one has mentioned rotary

I've heard they can be mated to a 323 FWD box. Of course no real chance of reliability but no weight issues, and I don't think its been done before.

A RWD conversion with a rotary would be great as you'd get a beautifully balanced car.

Both would require money and talent though. Problem is with the little Cento's you'll never get back what you put in. The more you spend the more you'll lose unless you keep it forever. This is what puts most people with the means off no doubt.

i take it the t-jet is a 1368 16v tub, with the rods ect strenghtened.

A nice custom inlet and exhaust manifold, cams and suspension/drive mods you'd have a prity serious cinq

And, apparently, the crank. Something like 160bhp in SS trim. It's the engine FIAT developed when they discovered that the 1.4 16v would go pop if you turboed it. Problem is you're looking at around a grand for a bare engine second hand. You can buy a new 135bhp 2litre Zetec for £750 and it wouldn't take a lot to put that up to 160 brake. Lots of gearboxen/LSDs out there, no lag/torque spike, etc.

To be sure, it's not Italian, doesn't really appeal on an emotional level, etc. But..........

If I had a deeply meaningful relationship with someone who worked at Ducati, well, with 195 bhp from 1200cc, who needs a turbo, and I'll take two please, per piacere.........;)

you REALLY want one of those V-twins in your grubby little mits dont you? :D

And yeah, it is a bit of a shame that if we want to keep out cars italian and not spend greek-bailout levels of cash we are limited to the 1.4 16v, nothing wrong with a Zetec / honda B, but i'd prefer a propper italian lump.
