General M-Jet / T-Jet argument thread !!

Turbo'ing an engine is of course it's not somthing I could tackle myself, but for a engine maker it's not complex. They could do all the usual things an engine modifier may do instead, such as mapping, better induction and exhaust, lighter and stronger componets etc.

Oh wow, I may be too new to participate in this argument but here goes anyway... Maybe a fresh set of eyes and a recent buyer has less bias?

I bought the GPS M-Jet because it is a really great, well balanced package. It performs in a very satisfying way due to the significantly greater torque compared with a turbo petrol. Sure, it runs out of puff at 4500rpm but that's why you have a 6spd... The economy is excellent - I get 5.2l/100km on the highway and 10 in inner city traffic.

I didn't consider the T-Jet to be honest since they have only been in Australia for 1-2 years and therefore were out of my budget. I did consider a VW Polo GTI though but was turned off by people saying that if you drive it to have some fun the stated fuel consumption doubles from 8ish to 16!! I suspect the T-Jet would be similar. I also passed on the Polo because I have had it with VWs and Audis since quite a few years ago after having an 1996 Audi A4 and 2000 Audi S3. Yeah, sure that S3 was very quick but its unreliability almost sent me broke...

Some of the larger newer diesels sound a lot better. I heard, of all things, a new Volvo earlier - unmistakably a diesel, but it had a deep sound that I thought sounded better than a lot of petrols

Large engined diesel Range Rovers sound OK too...

i would say you are horribly mistaken! :D

:p

The end-all to this subject (IMO) is if you're sensible, you will get an M-Jet.
If you want a fun, very nippy petrol turbo with the cheapest insurance.. get a T-Jet

..and on that bombshell

:D

no the end all is if you want power and torque get an Mjet

not that simple at all, what I said still stands.. I'm talking about stock cars, you're not.

If I wanted to void my warrenty I'd probably get an MJ, but I don't, and it's already been said and done numerous times and there is virtually no difference.

So if you're a petrol head and want the best turbo'd low insurance car then get a T-Jet.

If you don't care about warentee or insurance then go ahead and remap an MJ.

Well it's the same group as the T-Jet but people looking for a petrol turbo will be extremely hard pressed to find another in the same group.

As for power and torque, the MJ needs the little extra torque to carry around that heavy lump.
If you have a standard T&M-Jet and as everyone has said in a varied track with bends and straights.. it'll be an equal chance every time, with good drivers TJ will have it off the line, MJ higher band torque will come in on the straights but not leave the TJ behind.

Will someone prove me right and youtube a video

Why must every time this conversation comes up, we compare mapped M-Jets to T-Jets?

This Thread still makes me :chin: then :ROFLMAO: as :sucks:

Get over it M -T Jetters... you bought what you wanted, you cant compare apples to eggs.

Horses for courses, over a high mileage an MJet delivers better economy with good performance compared to a TJet, but a TJet is for shopping journeys & Tesco Car Parks in the evening do-nut circles...

I agree Ffoxy!

At the end of it we own a small city car, and they really weren't ever going to be fast! You need to go Arbarth ESSESSE to even go slightly fast.

Any of us could go out and buy a car for half the price than a Punto and it would beat the **** out of any t or m jet OR Arbarth. I think we really were in it for the car itself. I'll wait till someone forces a huge engine in a Punto like I'm doing putting a Honda V-TEC in a old mini.

But that aside, T-JET. I don't want to go to 60 slighty faster but sounding like a bus all the way lol ;)

That's what I've been saying all along.

T-Jet, fun. I happily sacrifice 10 mpg for the experience of the drive of a T-Jet.

Maybe when I settle down, have kids.. ..maybe start smoking a pipe and wearing tweeds.. then I will get a diesel for its economy.

..but without a remap, MJetters, you don't have a lot on us TJetters ;)

TJ:
Lovely sound (mine has developed a nice little burble in the exhaust)
Amazing take off without traction control - Very fun
Turbo whistle without that diesel ...sound :yuck:
Remaps available - more engine mods to come as its still growing in popularity
NOT a diesel (only joking)

MJ
In gear torque, its (almost) always there
Higher figures after remap
Better fuel economy (if you're bothered)
... uhh that's all I can think of

We have a 150 Tjet Bravo, and a 75 Mjet Punto.

My Mrs uses the Bravo daily for picking the nipper up from school, and driving other kids around she looks after, as its a 5 door and very spacey for what she uses it for.

I use the Punto cause I've passed the fast car stage now (and gone back to fast bikes instead! ;) ) and just needed something cheap to run me to work and back. £30 a year road tax and 45mpg around town driving, what more could I ask for. I've owned the Punto since October last year (09) and filled it up 4 times :D (I still have the receipts!).

When I picked up the car from Plymouth and drove it 220 miles back, I arrived home with the average MPG showing 68.7. :slayer:

So in my case, the Mjet wins hands down. ;) (Plus it only cost me £3k for a 57 plate with 14k miles).
