I’ve bought some 15” lounge alloys (07-15 style). Speaking briefly to #Typecastboy - the alloy paint he has used recently is not the same colour but a bit lighter… does anyone have recommendations or is there a colour code
any vid recommendations for refurbing myself….
lastly some silly questions….these are 15” 4x98 I believe these are a straight swap for the steel 14” that are on…do I need anything else?
the spare is a 14” too, space saver wheels are smaller than standards aren’t they so a smaller spare isn’t a problem?
Locking wheel nuts off eBay? Do I need a particular size?

might post a couple of pics of the tyres….basically I assumed that they are all knackered when I bought them….bit of a pain as I not long ago got new tyres for the steel wheels
#typecastboy you were using a tool on your drill in your recent vid werent you?… can you remember which vids had you refurbing wheels….are you going to do a how to?

I agree take them to an alloy specialist. £65 a wheel approx to strip, repair and repaint - powder coat. They will be as new.
There is no colour code and there are 100's of shades of silver. Insist on a decent sample of the paint used say 300ml for retouching. and whizz this to a place where they can make you an aerosol so it keeps. I had my current set of wheels painted as there are no paint codes for Fiat wheels that I could find at theat time. I had to do 4. I asked for a slighgtly more sparkly finish and dont regret it.

Wheels are the first thing that makes or breaks a cars appearance so I feel its worth the cost of keeping things right. If you get a paint manufacturer and the paint code for the new wheel colour you should be able to get a proper repaint if ever you have a wheel problem in future.

I have tried rattle cans but although it provides a cheaper fix it just doesnt last unless you spend hours preping very very carefully. Whatever I hope it turns out well.

Yes I was quite pleased however after 2-3 years small patches have come off
Yes I have the same issue with the wheels "refurbished " by the dealer we bought our lounge from. They still look OK but will need doing properly in due course. I have had a few sets done by a specialist and while its costly it lasts a good wile longer. I think if you spent a deay cleaning, degreeasing and prepping the surface a can job would last longer but it woiuld be a lot of work.
 
It’s a 12 yr old pop albeit a c, with respect to everyone advising a specialist, Im really not considering another 250 on getting them repaired properly. there are still small dings to sort and a sump to replace first.
I agree wheels often really finish a car off….but they are currently ok….with three new tires.
obviously I might change my plans in the future but currently it’s repair myself where I can.
 
As long as you do the complete wheel and probably all 4, it doesn't matter if you have the right paintcode or the right shade of silver. 1 of the other 99 will look ok too. It's all in the preparations. Make sure they are free of grease, sand them flat, degrease again, spray them.

Cheers - any preference on de greaser? just an alloy cleaner?

Personally I'd say isopropyl alcohol is a safer bet
My boy is a sign writer specializing in vehicle signage. It's very important to ensure a proper degrease before applying the vinyl to the vehicle and he uses Isopropyl extensively so I agree, probably Isopropyl is safer.
 
going to ask a really sill question...if/when i do replace the original wheels.....does the spare need to be the same size.....or is it acceptable for a short period to have a smaller ie 15" but spare 14"
