Technical Leaking Calliper

Hi all and Merry xMas, Have a good new year,
Well my GP has been out of action with brake fluid leaking from the near side rear calliper. After taking it off I tried to get a seal kit to re-condition it put no motor factors or main dealers had kits. A new calliper is about £150 and have been trying to get a used one to no avail. I have now taken out the piston from the unit and the rubber seal although looks ok is proberly worn. If I could get a kit now it would be happy days. Can anyone advise as to the availability of seal kits. I attach a photo and its such an easy job to fit the seal if only one could be got.

I live in Italy, so I can't be of more help to you, I'm afraid.

I used to live in America where you can get spare parts for nearly everything and even small towns have several auto parts supply houses. At most, I used to expect a 24 hour delay even for rather exotic components. Here in Italy I don't know of a single person (other than me) who does ANYTHING to their cars other than put in fuel. Even changing to winter tires and wheels is a job performed by a professional.

Many thanks for your reply and from Italy I have a friend here in Ireland Antonio from Roma, but I don't know any Italian. Yes we here still try and do some of the work and servicing ourselves. Well I have had cars since 1972 and that time you would have to repair something every week. My son only informed me today that he had located seals on the web in America, so I told him to start swimming to get them. The caliper comes up on the Fiat Parts web site as one unit and theres no seals shown as a part number. The Motor shops say its for safety reasons the seals are not available, so it would be better to buy the complete unit.

Well Hobby here again. I went on another web site and was informed that Biggred may have seals and pistons for our Grandes, so there may be no need to get new calipers after all. Can anyone advise if this is true?

Surely that question is hard to answer? Why don't you ring or email this bigred company and find out for sure?

I have e-mailed them but they are all on holiday until Tuesday 3rd. Jan. Man my GP is up on jacks since Dec 23rd. I have tried phoning these companies but no one there.:bang:

Well happy new year to all,
Eventually the companies making the caliper seals re-opened and we measured the caliper and the seal size. I had to wait a few days and finally they rang me to say the seal was ready. Put it all back together.
When putting on a reconditioned caliper on the rear leave the handbrake cable off until you have bled and taken the car out for a test. While driving pump the pedal to get the piston to wind in to the correct position and then put back on the handbrake cable.

Each Grande Punto is equipped with a maintenance reminder system that illuminates a service message on the instrument cluster when the system has determined thjat its time for regular maintenance. After maintenance is preformed the service indicator needs to be reset so the comuter can track when the next service is due. A Fiat Dealer will reset the service indicitor if it carries out the maintenance. If you do the service yourself you can reset the light manually.

1. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position without starting the engine

2. Press the odometer reset button repeatedly until the total millage is displayed.

3. Turn the ignition switch to "OF"

4. Press and hold the trip odometer reset button.

5. Turn the ignition switch to "ON". Do not start the engine.

6. Release the trip odometer reset button after the service display counts down from 10 to 0 and the Service Light Resets.

Hope this is of help to those who do their own servicing.
