Hi folks,

My 2009 Dynamic Eco only has one key. It's a replacement key from your Timpsons sort of set up, not an original Fiat key.

Works fine but i'd quite like remote central locking. A friend of mine gave me a full remote central locking key from his Panda Dynamic that was written off.

My plan is, get a key place to cut a new blade from the key i have, and get the remote key I've been given recoded to my car.

Would this work?

I've had a rummage about threads but not found any for my particular situation so apologies if it's a double post!

My understanding is that it did originally come with factory remote central locking, at least according to specs I've read online... guess we'll just give it a go and see!

Which is indeed the case, so it's definitely got remote central locking.

Now we just need to see if my 'new to me' key will work!

that's how I see it.


Fiat chop and change things. But as far as I know if there's the mechanism in the boot then the rest will be in place.
 
By 2009 the 1.2 Dynamic Eco had remote central locking as standard, so the requisite hardware should be present in the car.

The biggest problem I can see is how to get the car's immobiliser system to recognise the 'alien' remote key. You can probably reprogram the car to unlock remotely with it, but getting it to start the car might be more challenging. There's definitely more to this than just changing the blade.

It might be easier (and cheaper) to get an independent locksmith to supply a new aftermarket remote and code the car to accept it.

reprogramming a remote is not something I have done


I believe multiecuscan free version works. Not 100%. Most threads about this are a mess


multiecuscan can not reprogram the transponder code into the body computer.


a locksmith can clone a key so this isnt required. Usually around £45


Heres where it gets messy. The remotes are different. Older ones had a separate transponder chip. Newer ones are soldered onto the PCB


How compatible they are, are can the new ones still be cloned, what year did it change, are question I do not know the answer to.


opening the car with a remote and starting the car with the original key is an easy and cheap option

what I nightmare.

lots of contradicting information

some say all the keys are the same

others say they were different after 2007

Others say the new type can't be copied others say they can

most say a second hand key will not work. Once its programmed to a car it can't be changed. It differently can but I dont think its easy

some software requires the PIN to program a new key. Not a problem with a clone key. Other s/w can even read the PIN stored in the body computer

I see new remotes in China for around £10. Also they will cut the blade from a photo
and list the software to program it.

Main dealer will not program 3rd party keys

Ok, i will tell you what i think, you can get a normal second key for a Panda, mine needed to be cut and the transponder chip coded to match the imobilisor, cost was £40. If the Panda has remote locking, to make a new key work (ebay key perhaps) you need the key cut, then the transponder chip mated to your imobilisor (locksmith) now you have to program your remote (you can do this) what you have to do is register your remote to the ecu, each car is different, my wifes Suzuki, you sit in the car with the door open, put the key in the ignition, switch it on and off, then take the key out, press the button on the door case (that switches the interior light on) three times, then put the key back in the ignition and turn it on, then pull out the key, the hazards will flash if it works, press your remote and the car should lock, all this has to be done in 20 seconds!
Just like the Suzuki, there will be a sequence for the panda, search on line. its long winded but it works!
 
Ive always made a point of not buying cars that dont have the £250 key

Slave keys are cheap (sons FIAT)

With his previous PEUGEOT.. I went the used EBAY key route
A specialist locksmith had the machine to scan and cut the blade.. then rechipped the key.. then it was all via the OBD port

He charged £80 but it took over an hour.. so not stupid ( and interesting to watch the process)

Good to have 2 x 'factory' remote keys :)

Sadly the written off Panda is now a cube in some scrapyard, so all i have is the key (and a spare 12v battery from it!)

I'm asking around some locksmiths near me to find out my best option. I'm fine with using my current keyblade to start it and having the remote locking separate, but the car cost me £500 so I'm not too bothered if i can't make it work.

I dont believe a remote thats already been programmed is easy to reprogramed or added to a different vehicle


virgin remotes as £10 from china



of cause as its not something I have tried I could be completely wrong

Can't find any locksmith near me who'll do it :(
