Hi there, I have a 2.8tdi 2000 model ducato benimar. For some reason the key code light and water in diesel filter lights have come, and occasionally the engine cuts out, lights go off when driving. Any suggestions
Try changing the battery in the key, make sure to look up in the manual or online, how to reprogramme the key, usually is a few steps only, or the open/close may have issues.
Engine cutting out is not good, may have something to do with blocked filter, but a fault code scan would be a good idea too.
You'd check the filter for sure, location should also be in the manual.
I am not aware of batteries in x230 key fobs, even my 2006 x244 does not have one.
With the possible exception of the water in fuel alarm, the other problems could be caused by either a faulty ignition switch, or the supply to it.
Has the fuel filter been drained of any possible water? If so the you could speculate that loss of supply to the water infuel sensor is causing spurious alarms.
Please note that irrespective of the key code light, a failure of the ignition on supply to the stop solenoid, will cause the engine to cut out.
Thanks both for your replies. I have drained the fuel filter, even though it hasn't been run for 500 miles, that did have a little water in it. After having someone to check things over, I'm thinking of changing the immobiliser ring and the ignition barrel. But not sure if I'd have to get it reprogrammed with the ecu, any info would be appreciated.

May I advise trying one thing at a time. The immobiliser aeriel ring is a passive component, and I doubt that it is a cause of your problems.
As reported elsewhere I recently changed the ignition switch insert on my 2.8jtd. Once I got an original matching part, rather than cheaper alternative it slipped into place and engaged quite easily. To my mind this method should be easier than removing the the shear bolts, replacing the whole arm, and swapping the lock barrel. However as there is a right angle drive to the switch involved, some wear causing sloppiness may have occured.
Your 2.8idTD does not have an ECU, but the keys will be coded to the code receiver which communicates with the immobiliser on the injection pump.
