Hi Dave,
Welcome to the forum.
Perhaps if you were to supply some details about your Ducato vehicle, someone may be able to help you. Also you mention a faulty alarm, but give no details. Why are you disconnecting the starter battery?

I have the alarm problem with the battery conected it shows a fault on the battery charger so to charge it I had to take the earth cable off.
It's a 1999 ducato 2.8id TD does anyone know were the alarm is located so I can disconect it please

Given the age of the vehicle, a perimeter alarm is probably not an OEM device, and would have been fitted aftermarket, perhaps by, or for a previous owner. That means you are on your own when seeking the location. To confirm that we are talking about similar items, by alarm do you mean a perimeter alarm, on doors & bonnet, and not the key code system which is an OEM system.

In your initial post, you say that the vehicle will not start. Does this mean the starter does not turn the engine over, or that the engine turns over, but fails to fire?

Hi its a 1999 2.8id TD Ducato camper.
I thought at first it was a flat vehicle battery so put the clever charger on which would not charge it said there was a fault .
I diaconected the earth from the battery and then charged the battery. I then tried to start I had all the lights on the dash lit ,the starter would not turnthe engine over. Then turned the key to off but the oil and battery light stayed lit but onl dim
, I disconected the battery and the lights went out .
I took the starter to be checked but it was ok. while I had the starter off I turned the engine over with a screw driver to make sure it was not hydraulicing.
I looked up how to reset the alarm by turning the engine on and off 5 times then engine started but once I stopped it the battery andoil light stayed on but dim. any advice would be helpful thanks for the responce

The key code system does does not require a battery in the key. The key code system does not prevent the starter motor from cranking the engine, but a separate alarm system could do that.
With key code failure which is what your light suggests, the engine will turn over but not fire. Unfortunately you seem to have two problems.
A failure of the starter motor to operate, and a key code failure.
First priority is to get the starter motor operating. Your reported problems could be due to a failing battery, or faulty ignition switch.
At 25years old the electronics in the key code system are outside their typical design life of 20 years, and could have died. There are some simple things to try once you get the starter operating, but it is possible to physically remove the key code system from the vehicle.
