Fiat ducato 2002-2006 airbag light
This post is to help anyone suffering airbag light and no communication from ecu.
Pre can bus and only drivers airbag
Remove the battery negative for around 20 minutes to be safe
Then
Remove the plastic covering in the centre near the floor under the large cubby hole (should have airbag sticker)
Then
There will be a ecu with 3 10mm nuts/bolts on it at the back (you will need a 10mm spanner as sockets to big to fit)
Remove the 2 connectors and the 3 nuts
Then
Clean the 2 connectors, and ecu ports
Also clean the mounting plate (not sure if this was a ground or just because it’s metal or even if helps but there was a lot of old dirt there so I cleaned it)
Then
Reattach the ecu reconnect battery and turn on ignition wait 5 minutes if the lights is still on
Then
Buy a replacement ecu (around £30) I used partversal.co.uk as they were the cheapest and had garuntee make sure you get the right one (match it to the two highlighted codes)
It doesn’t matter if it has come from a relay boxer or Ducato as long as the codes match
You do not have to have your data transferred over from your old ecu to the new one as it is pre canbus and is plug and play (atleast in my experience)
Then
Once you have swapped the part over turn on the ignition and the light should go out after a few minutes (i plugged my seatbelt in and it disappeared and stayed off once seatbelts unplugged) might have activated the system? Idk
I am posting this to help anyone with the same issues as I had because I had been told by ecu repair companies to send off my ecu to have the data transferred but it was actually a plug and play simple fix saved £100 and much more if i took it to the garage.
My advice is only from my experience that I just wanted to share to help someone else struggling with this
Thanks
