Tuning ITG Filters for 100HP

£150 is a ridiculous amount to pay just for an air filter and a bit of piping. Also run the risk of water ingestion. Where I live on the Cheshire plains flooding is rife, no chance would I risk it.

I think best bet (if you must) is a panel filter or just stick a cone on with minimal piping nice and high up. The whole thing about 'cold' (read ambient) air feeds is over-rated anyway.

The positioning wont allow for water ingestion. your feet would be wet before the induction got wet. having the filter high in the engine is prone to heat soak so positioning away from the engine allows cooler air to flow in

Have you got any claims to show that it is over rated? Or is this just your opinion.

As I have proved otherwise that a decent CAF is beneficial to keeping the intake temps lower than If there was no CAF present.

Personally I will stick with an OE panel filter. That way I can keep my 3 year warranty secure and also save money. If I want a better induction noise I will just fit a better ss exhaust when the OE unit packs in.

Your worried that a panel fitter will invalid your warranty but yet are willing to stick on a as exhaust??

an aftermarket panel filter in no way effects warranty

Yes I have. When I was looking at efficient intercooling on my old modded supercharger I noted that performance began to dip once the intake temperature exceeded 70C. (My fiance even built a datalogger from scratch to measure pre and post intercooler temps) Sometimes it would reach nigh on 200C. Not good. I did extensive modifications to the intercooling and halved the intake temps post intercooler. My thinking is that 10 or 20 degrees difference is really not going to matter. Reckon there's nothing wrong with having a good ambient air feed (there is no such thing as a 'cold' air feed. That is just marketing hype/****e). Most engine bays have adequate airflow when moving and putting a feed low down is just asking for trouble in respect of water ingestion.

On another car I had (NA MK1 MR2) I put the cone filter directly onto the throttle body. There was much kerfuffle about having a 'cold' air feed. This was despite a good airflow from underneath the car and out of the engine lid vent.

So you may be able to prove that you can reduce intake temps, but really to what benefit? Also don't forget there is no such thing as a 'cold air flow' it is simply ambient air.

an aftermarket panel filter in no way effects warranty

I completely and totally disagree with that. By law you can have your car serviced by any garage. However they must use parts that are Fiat approved or to the same standard. So you dont have to use Selenia oil but you do have to use the same grade and something to the same standard.

However unlikely if I had a problem with the engine and had a performance filter installed im positive the dealer would fight the warranty claim. I am also sure that Fiat would back the dealer up. They could claim that the performance filter had damaged the engine by not performing how a recommended filter should perform.

Yes it would be BS and like I said this entire scenario is highly unlikely. However it is always better to play it safe. Not only that but using a performance filter makes no discernible performance gains and just gives a slightly better sound. Personally peace of mind wins the day.

I am also convinced that when you clean a performance filter it will never be as good as when it was new. So I would prefer to buy a cheaper filter and just have a brand new one fitted every year.

Please note I said PANEL filter, not a cone. An itg is made of foam, and can be washed with clean water. We had the warranty side of it confirmed by Renault UK (cliosport.net) when I had the 197. As the parts are direct replacement and do not change the cars manufactured specs they are ok. They did however state that if the maf sensor was damaged due to oil contamination (over oiled k&n kits were mentioned) then that part would not be covered.

Hi all, in case anyone’s interested I’ve just received an email from AngelTuning.co.uk stating that:
We have a couple of ITG Competition Air Filters left in stock for the Fiat Panda 1.4 16v 100HP and we are trying to create some space for new items, therefore we are selling these off at just £30 including P&P (RRP is £77 inc VAT and P&P!). These are on a first come first serve basis and once they are gone they will be back at normal RRP when we buy new stock in. These filters are brand new, sealed and in their box.

Sadly I traded my 100HP in last May for the Punto Evo.
Anyway just thought I’d pass on the info for anyone that’s interested.(y)

Does anyone know if these filters are still on offer ?

I was looking to extract a little extra from a 1.4 in a 500. By the way the 500 forum reckons that the Panda 100bhp rocks !
