Driving to work this morning on dual carriageway, person 2 vans in front slammed on brakes, then van infront of me slammed on brakes and slammed on mine but I didnt really have a chance. Person 2 vans in front didnt stop. Van I went into didnt have any damage. Now mines ****ed, no overheating or anything, mechanically is fine but look at the damage:

Can it be repaired at all?

Bloody hell Sam, you aint having much look matey are you?

Hope you're ok?

Lets hope you get it sorted soon.

on a p reg punto it would be a write off, but you could fix it yourself cheaply and easily so i wouldnt go through insurance (especially as a claim will make your insurance higher for 5 years!)

if you can find a punto the same colour at a scrapyard you'll get the bumper and bonnet for less than £50, and the cross member if you need it (is it bent?)

a headlight or two will only be another tenner or two. so for less than £100 it will be perfect again.

definately dont go through insurance, unless it was someone elses fault and their insurance will pay out (generally if you go into the back of someone its always your fault), using your own insurance is crazy on a car worth as much as yours, you'll lose more than the cars value on the extra insurance permiums alone, never mind the loss of value when the car has recorded damage, and the excess they'll take off the cars value before pay out.

next time keep yourt distance, it shouldnt matter how hard the person in front brakes, if you keep your distance and stay alert (and have working brsakes) you should NEVER hit the car in front. no excuses.

as chris said, i think u got a bit lucky there, especially if there is no mechanical damage to the engine.

new bonnet
new bumper
new slam pannel

id say thats about it..... the light and passengers wing look nicely in tact.

cheap 2nd hand bumper and bonnet, then the only real cost will be the labour to change the slam pannel and spray it.

was it a fast impact?
when my cinq got rear ended it mainly got written off cause the chasis split at the back, so thats the main thing u wanna watch out for.

bad luck tho mate... id hazard a guess and say your lookin a couple, maybe even a few hundred to fix it, so depends how much the car is valued at!

Yeah it was mine on eBay Blu. No I only hit them at 5mph or something, just dual carriageway is packed in the morning going towards town was travelling at like 60mph but when someones brake lights go on u just start braking a bit, u dont really anticipate them making an emergency stop of anything so I just ended up going into the back of them.

The metal bit is bent, is that the slam panel?

I would say That it is a write off.

i notice that the crossbar (the thing with the 2 polystyerene blocks) is bent, that will need the front end dismantled and re-welded to fix.

Look at my car in the classifieds and you will see the extent of the work that needs doing.

changing the cross member (or slam panel if you prefer) is a very easy job to do. it wont cost much at all. they can often be straightened of there is only a slight bend, or they can be cut off and replaced if the damage requires a new one (unless its a bolt on in which case do it yourself in 5 mins). a brand spanking new one will cost less than £20, welding it in will be cheap, the painting will cost the most. but still its nowt, its the sort of thing i couldnt resist buying at auction because its so easy. you've been very lucky.

Lol best of luck finding that colour in a scrappy's its rare enough as it is.

If that was to go through the insurance it would be written off.

You have bent the cross member and slam panel (people who think they are the same thing are wrong)

These are also spot welded in, will need to be drilled out and new ones welded back in.

You have also bent the bumper reinforcement.

Also might need two headlights as it looks like you have broken the mounts on them.

You will prob need a new rad, chances are its gone back and hit the power steering pump.

Theres a few hundred pounds worth of damage there easy.

Dont forget after parts there are labour and paint costs.

fancy buying it then Jug :p

how much if i collect and how much including delivery to co. durham (if you're willing)?
has the rad leaked at all?

BTW i know a slam panel and cross member are different (slam panel on top cross member on bottom  ) but you grind them out and weld in new ones together and at the same time, and i'd paint them up at the same time, so i call them the same thing (wrongly i know), i've changed enough of them to know what they are :) seen as the damage is more bumper than bonnet i'd expect a new cross member is just as likely as a slam panel.

ok i was just pointing it out for other people.

You wouldnt even have to paint them if you didnt want to.

likely, deffo you can see its bent in the picture.

Wow parts must be cheap out side london. In a London Scrappy we'd be looking at between £60 & £80 for a bonnet and about £10 - £20 per light. Bumper would be about £40 - £60 so lets just add up and say

£160 - £200 for parts (If we include that panel all the lights fit into)

That Bent black block underneath the NSF Head lamp, Behind the bumper looks worrying.

I don't know what that is connected to but it looks serious.

I'd estimate around £500 - £800 on repairs (Including the parts you bought) depending on where you live and who can offer you the best price.
