General is the stilo really badly made?

1.6 16v owner and i think i had bad luck when choosing the car.

iv done 15k (its now on 64k) in 1 year and its cost me £1500 to fix stuff, however included in that is:

New valves, headgasket (belt slipped) new shaft in the engine
I had to change the piston, caliper, brake pad for the a rear wheel
New rear and front brakes

and obviously a cam belt change.

On the upside, virtually everthing will be new!!

WOW thats scary! im a student and i would go crazy if i had to pay that much out in a year!!

My advice...?

Dont buy ANY car! Unless you get one so cheap you can happily wave it goodbye if a BIG bill rears its ugly head.

They ALL go wrong chucky101...

i guess buying an alfa romeo 147 is out the question haha!

Thats what I did! Have to say, re the Stilo, so long as you find one that has been looked after and look after her yourself. She will be no less relaible than anything German!

so u swapped ur stilo for the 147? nice! :worship: :slayer:

or it is under warranty.

my mile eater has to have a warranty

my run around is a saxo that can be fixed, and has been fixed, with kit-kat foil wrappers

is the stilo really badly made? cos all i see on this forum is technical shouts for help!

That's what the forum is for - you'll always see the 'problems' here (same goes for any other marque).

I bought a stilo about 6 weeks ago. I loved it the second i got in it.

I was the cheapest in the sales room, the guy was desperate to sell it as he said no one wanted fiats, bad name etc. I took the gamble.

It was a little rough, got it fixed, and am now flying around in it, litraly, as im used to an old 95 reg corsa and this thing just gooooooeeees, so i like to make it go a lot :)

Its got space, the sound system is ok, its comfy, power when you need it. just ticks a lot of boxes, but im dont have a lot of experiance with cars to back that up with.

I would just say its fun, and often unique, you dont see many fiats on the road, let alone stilos.

Go for the 1.6 147 surely the insurance for that is not too bad?

I think the lowest ins. group for the 147 is group 10, might even be group 12, so they are pretty bad for ins. quotes.

I wanted one but group 12 for the JTD when i could get the Stilo JTD for group 5 meant it just wasnt worth it. Especially as theyre less economical, more to buy (this is justified tho) and sit in higher tax bands.
