is the stilo really badly made? cos all i see on this forum is technical shouts for help! im starting to think that maybe getting a stilo wasnt a good idea.

The stilo is a great car it has it's niggles which are mostly electrical related and are normally a quick and cheap fix, I love mine problems and all if I knew when I bought it what I know now I would still buy it coz its so much fun (y)

Most of recent "problem" posts seem to be
"I never check my oil or ever put any in and i keep getting warning lights on my dashboard. Help!!"

I think some car owners are badly made:)

Mines on 83K miles now - but then I do check the oil every week

i've got a baseball bat waiting for stilo slaters!

the reason that most people log onto a forum is to vent some annoyance when something has gone wrong, and as deckchair has said, its all down to maintainance.

EVERY car has its share of niggles, some people realise that and happily live with it, others expect to pay 20p for a service and 15p for genuine fiat parts then when it goes wrong come on here and say the stilo is the worst car in the galaxy.

Actually the stilo may even be on of the better cars in its class, as nearly all its issues are easily fixed, other 'more desireable and well known reliable' cars aren't so.

My JTD hit 91k this week, and its fantastic. i love it, and nearly everyone else does judging by the looks i get wherever i go, especially when on the move.

Dont forget the stilo was named the 7th most reliable car in the uk ;) Whether thats true is a different matter :p

Ive had my car coming on two years and to get rid of the problems i had, i disconnected the battery and the only other problem was a broken exhaust....easily fixed.

Fiat get way too much stick when there good cars....that makes me like mine better

But yea its a fantastic car :D

I agree with the above Posters. My wifeys 1.2 has never let her down in 5 years, just gets regular servicing and is never thrashed to within an inch of its life.

Look on other Forums, even VW Forums... they all have troubles! Just some pay more for the privelege and as such say very little... did you know Mercedes drivers are amongst those least happy for example? Merc have real reliability issues recently! Take a peak on any Forum, but remember, most people ONLY Post on a Forum when they have a fault, the ones who dont have faults never Post (or rarely) so you dont see them.

According to What Car my GP should be a real horror... but in 43,000 miles its never let me down, goes like stink and looks fantastic! Cheap to buy too lol!

a thing i used to say to people at work (ford) when they say they heard of a problem on the internet with their car:

pick any random object, type it in google followed by the words problem or fault, and you will find a problem.

most car forums are ususally people looking for help, people tend not to just randomly post: "this week my car had nothing wrong with it"

and again the amount of posts about abarths generally have to do with low oil, then get worse.

well as a testiment to the stilo i would have no reservation buying another 3 door abarth for sub £3000

Well i run a Stilo mw jtd which is thrashed most of the time, Not looked after in anyway shape or form and to be honest is one of the best cars i have had.
Apart from a egr valve, 2 overboost valves and a numberplate section oh and a battery nothing much has gone wrong with it what so ever. Its now sat on about 110,000 miles, it might get a oil change in the next couple of months but its doesnt really use any oil either.
The paint work is thin, chips really easy, plastics inside are brittle and mark easy and apart from that yeah i love my stilo, comfy, quick and refined.

Would i have another, YES but as they dont make them now i guess i will be looking at another estate car when the time comes unless i can find a late reg one, Shame really ticks alot of boxs for me does this car.

Badly made No.

thanks for all the help guys, but i still cant help but think it. ive had my 1.6 dynamic for just over a month and i keep hearing weird unfriendly noises coming from the engine, it sounds like the belts are rubbing on something not sure about it being the engine itself but the noises are starting to worry me.
i think i have the worse luck in this world when it comes to buying cars :( lets hope my beautiful yellow stilo pulls through.

Sound like the crank pulley problem to me?

Hi my Feb 03 stilo 16cc 5 door has now completed 97k miles fitted gen fiat cam belt kit at 80k the old one still seemed ok but changed it as new head is £££

Good point, could also be cam-belt tensioner issue.

Well my Feb 03 16cc Stilo has now 94k miles and ok had to fit new front disks and pads it needs 2nd set new set of tyres soon. Cam belt kit 80k fitted by me. Average 40 mpg. Oh I do have a CAN OBD11 Auto Scanner Code Reader with reset, (China) So that saves main agents service costs that are cosly for any make of car
So all in all happy with Fiat Stilo has many standard bits that all but the most expensive car have some of. Good value 16cc goes fast if needed (135mph)

Never had really huge issues costing £££s, unless I go to the dealer for a small problem and they times it by "x" amount. It has indeed just been niggly things, usually electrical issues, which have been cleared up (for now) by a better battery.

Wouldn't get another one, but that's just because I'd like a change.

Well my car is just over the 80k mark now and has kind of become the 2nd car in the house as I have a C Max 2.0 TDCI as well now, that said the Stilo is doing the most miles every day as the missus's commute car and is proving its self well despite having had its brake pads run almost to the metal and the oil is almost like tar at the moment as I haven't had time to service it!
This is my 2nd Multiwagon and I love it... the C MAx was the only car I could place closely to it in terms of kit, driving and space, its actually less roomy than the Stilo.
I've just had the wheels refurbed in grey and nice new posh Dunlops all round, put new disc rotors and pads on it and will continue to spend money on good quality service parts and little upgrades as I have no intention selling it for a good few years yet.
Saying that when the brakes were getting done I did notice the front sub frame mounts are shot at the back so its going to a good garage tomorrow to get priced up, hopefully not too expensive.
Long live the Stilo!!!

Another Multiwagon owner here - JTD115 Dynamic. I love the car, its certainly a lot better looking than other estates out there. Its 4 years old and now on 106K (it was on 10K when I bought it at 10 months old) Its always dirty on the outside as it has an 80 mile daily commute, but I kinda like it like that. Its on the original clutch and exhaust, hasn't suffered the airbag warning or other major electrical gremlins but has had the following replaced....

Front Discs
Both rear calipers
Rear beam axle bushes
Front wishbone
Drop links
Cam Belt at 75K
Rear shocks
ALL coil springs replaced (after "snappage")

Seems a fair bit I know, but when I consider the hard life the car has had its not too bad, and it has never ever broken down or left me stranded anywhere either here or on any of its many forrays into europe.

One of the best cars I have had ( and I have had about 40) (y)

1.6 16v owner and i think i had bad luck when choosing the car.

iv done 15k (its now on 64k) in 1 year and its cost me £1500 to fix stuff, however included in that is:

New valves, headgasket (belt slipped) new shaft in the engine
I had to change the piston, caliper, brake pad for the a rear wheel
New rear and front brakes

and obviously a cam belt change.

On the upside, virtually everthing will be new!!
