iPhone 5 launch

iPhone 5 launch

I'm quite happy with the walled garden that is windows phone, sure it's a walled garden but it's a nice one unlike Apple's rather expensive and silly one.

Never had a problem with my iPhone walled garden nor the expense ? my phone and ipad both sync wirelessly with my Windows based laptop which also runs and syncs with iCloud as well, i can open all my apple documents created on my phone or ipad on my PC and vice versa the only limiting factor is the ability to create and run my own Apps but that said I can't program so its not very limiting, if there is something i really want to do i can jail break the phone and open it up to all the issues of an android phone with fraud, viruses and rouge apps

windows 8 mobile is pretty new to the phone game so it remains to be seen how it will compare I certainly have no experience of it, but i would give it a go in the future.

one thing that has cracked me up is this video

Hmm another plus with Apple is that they tend to support existing models for 2-3 years after launch with updates. People who bough Nokia Lumias running Windows Phone 7 can't update to v8. People who bought Samsung Galaxy S2s can't presently run the latest Android releases and even the updates they do get are delayed by carriers (unless you root the phone but you can jailbreak iPhones as well).

Lumias got a tango update to add internet sharing just last month. Sure they won't get Win phone 8, but do they need it? Apps for WP8 will run on WP7.8. Unless a revolutionary software update comes along that can't be delivered by an app - then it's not like they are missing out on any functionality.

Same for Android. My Gal S2 doesn't have Jellybean yet, but probably will. Will it include anything really new that my hardware can support? Probably not. ICS already opens all the functionality my hardware can achieve, so not much is gained by being on a newer version.

The fact that iOS runs on such old hardware just proves how little the iphone has advanced in hardware terms. Don't confuse this with speed increases... They have to drop some functions simply due to how processor hungry some apps are meaning 3/4 year old devices can't keep up.

Getting new versions of the OS is not an indication of support for a model. Even without being on the same OS version as the flagship model, that doesn't mean security updates and bug fixes aren't being developed for the older versions where applicable.

never heard of sim free?

Except that in too many cases it does due to the need for operators and manufacturers to stick their logos all over the firmware and push it out.
You have a fair point about Apple stripping features. In some cases that is fair enough, other like Siri missing on iPhone 4 probably less so but the same happens on all handsets.

Unless you go sim free...

Yes but that still relies on the manufacturer unless you root and install vanilla Android.

Fancy a new iPhone 5? To ensure supply to meet demand the employees in the Chinese factory that makes them have had a pay increase to £46 a month and suicide nets installed on all the balconies. Go Apple! :)

Bit of startling info from radio4 today,
Before everyone jumps out and buy one!
You could be forgiven for thinking that if you buy an iPhone 5 at launch you'll be able to use 4G when Vodafone, O2 and Three launch their 4G networks in the future. Sadly, this is not the case, and the 4G iPhone 5 which will be available from 21 September will not be compatible with any forthcoming networks from either Vodafone or O2.

The problem is that only EE is anywhere near having a working 4G network in the UK, and even EE has said iPhone 5 4G customers will have to sign up with Orange or T-Mobile first. It has done this by re-assigning some of its old, 2G, frequency allocation. This is happening on the 1800MHz band, which T-Mobile and Orange has used since the original introduction of GSM digital phones.

The good news for Three customers, however, is that if you buy an iPhone 5 at launch you'll get access to 4G in the second half of next year. This is because Three has bought some of EE's capacity, which will allow it to make use of 4G on the same frequencies.

The whole 4G situation is making O2 and Vodafone very cross indeed. Mainly because they think this gives EE an advantage, but mostly because both firms refarmed their 900MHz spectrum in 2011 for 3G. Had they wanted, they could have launched a similar service to EE's at the same time.

This doesn't really have anything to do with the iPhone per-se it applies to any phone that has the ability to connect to 4G. Of which there are many already from the likes of htc.

I can't believe however that I'm the first person to not give a crap clearly some big back handers have been flying about or some MPs with big investments in Orange-t mobile. What ever the case I wouldn't buy into their corrupt networks out of principle. That and that their network coverage of rural parts of Norfolk/Suffolk are pretty dire.

I like the fact I'm free to do what I WANT with MY PHONE

So tell me. What do you do on your mobile that you can't do on an iPhone? Yes apple govern certain aspects of the mobile. Especially what can be installed however they do so for many good reasons. So other than cosmetically altering the OS to make it pretty what do you do differently?

Anyway back on to the iphone 5. My opinion on this is simple. Call me what you want but I thoroughly enjoy being an Apple customer. And preordered mine the moment it came online. I think it's everything I want. Other than NFC which ive never used . And my debit cards been able to do it for close to two years? And wireless charging, which isn't something I craved, yeh it could be usefull. But who doesnt have the habbit of putting your phone on charge as you go to sleep? what else is there that it doesn't have? There we go then. I have everything necessary for my life technologically speaking. Also with my being a customer with them for so long, it means I have a brilliant catalogue of films, books, movies, and most of all Apps. That I transfer and copy between all my iOS devices both old and new at the push of a button using iCloud. But of course android fans have to rip in and be overly hateful to users that do like them? Which is wrong!..

...Oh wait I forgot Android is much more functional though right so android users are allowed to take the ****? Yeh that's right I can't have a weather widget on my home screen to see the weather? What a crying shame? Oh I wanna put a pretty link to YouTube and my Facebook all over this home screen? Man my life must suck because I can't do that right? No. I can do anything an Android user can do. In many cases faster and more efficiently. I just don't need a big flashing Homescreen telling me a joke of the day, or what my horoscope is.

And the one thing that really grinds my gears is people saying Apple products are expensive? I've had an iPhone 4 for 2 and a half years. Initially yes it was dear. But it lasted me. Android users change there devices every other bloody month. I guarantee if you calculated an Android users spending over two years against an iPhone user it would be more expensive.

To finish this rant off. Enjoy your Android. I'm glad you do. Just don't be a cock and think your anything better. I don't see myself as better than anyone because I use an iPhone. So why is it ok to sit there and slate others? Just because you have an android? Get off your high horses. Because its pathetic.

Hmm I'll take your more expensive wager. I'm on an £8 a month contract with with unlimited data and more calls and texts than I use. On a phone that is currently using Android 4.04. It started with 2.2 18 months ago. I haven't spent a penny on it other than my £8 pm since all the apps I've needed have been free.

Helped my mate update his Xbox 360to the latest firmware the other day by becoming a wireless hotspot for him to connect to live and download the 1gb+ update. Genuine question can you do that with ios yet?

Yes, you can do hotspots on ios, android and Windows. All down to the carrier locking it down or not.

2. I had the choice between an Iphone 4 and my Desire HD, im glad i took the Android route, the guy who bought his Iphone the week before me has had 3 new screens, 2 new 3.5mm audio jacks and countless 30pin connector cables. Yeah, he didnt buy the apple care protection plan (at £60) but I didnt buy anything like that either. He spent £80 on his latest screen and its already scratched after 3 weeks of general pocket use. 20 months in with my Desire HD, having never used a screen protector, i have yet to get a single scratch on my screen. I had to return it to HTC due to a charging issue which I eventually resolved through insurance as it was easier (only cost me £25 excess). I dont pay for apps unless essential and Its had a lot more features from launch than the Iphones ever had! Im not being snooty or big headed but your post was very opinionative and in my eyes, a little bit rude.
I have no bias as to which is better in the Android vs Windows vs IOS fight as each have there own merits.
But in future, get your facts right before you make up some lies about android users needing new phones every other month....

Personally, Im looking forward to having a test drive with the new nokia lumia 920! Reading in the sun yesterday, its specced up to be faster than the I5 and with a better screen then the I4s, it cant be too bad. And after seeing @loop s S3 last night, I like that too (despite being about the same size as a solar panel ;) )
