Hi All - I'm curious to know if it is possible to install a tachometer into the 1.1 active?

I don't care much if it is just one sitting on the dashboard, I just would like to know if the connector is behind the panel, unused, as I believe it was in the orginal multipla's without the rev counter, and if it would just be a matter of plugging it in?

And I have searched the forum, but I can only find stuff relating to the old pandas...

I have been wondering the same thing myself as I have now been driving mine for 2 weeks and I find the engine surprisingly quiet, to the extent that I occasionally find myself checking I am in 5th and not 3rd:eek:. The best I came up with was plugging a scangauge (scangauge2 co uk) into the ODB2 socket. The only problem is it is over £100 and I bought this car because it is cheap to run and buy and I still need to get roof bars and a bike carrier as my bike no longer fits in the car :)

aftermarket tachs often run off the coil packs so its just a case of how handy you are with wires.

your now going to be told a few times that you can install a set of oem dials with the rev clocks but you will also need to install different stalks so that it can be operated and i dont know if anyone has done this on a panda yet.

im still wondering wether it could be operated by the little buttons to the side of the dash that operate the current display. although if it did then why would fiat install a different stalk

after a search on ebay it looks like the buttons are attached to the unit.

maybe you could create a hybrid unit that used the connections of the one with the tach and the display but still used the basic digi display and operating buttons

Not on a waisted spark system as used on the FIRE engines ;)

Reckon he'd need an adaptor in order to get the revs right as otherwise it'll read all over the place on a DLI/wasted spark system.

It is possible though. Many years ago I had a 4AGZE engine put into my MR2. That was DLI and there was a little black box (that I supposed halved the signal) to get the revs correct. It worked okay.

It may also be the case that you can buy rev counters which are designed for DLI. What I can't believe though, is that you can still buy a car without a rev counter!

Would need to double it.

i swear there is a guide on this site that tells you how to wire into a twin coil system

Is in the Classic Panda system, for connection from the signal feed on the ECU, but thats for the old style SPi ECU's.

Isnt the 1.1 engine in the Active the same engine in the Seicento? If so couldnt you take the rev counter from a sporting and retro fit it? Even if it isnt possible it might give you an idea how to fit one.

That wouldn't help tbh, the issue is the wiring of the signal feed and where to take it from and not the unit in general.

Thanks all for your replies, the ODB2 thing looks like a possibility, although at 100 quid - i don't think I'm that desperate.

I Can't understand why they would sell a car without one anyway, as you say - specially in the world of eco madness - a rev counter can only help with hyper-mileing cant it?

Mad world.
