Just a question for someone in the know I'm looking at a 1.2 16v engine at the moment but its currently attached to a auto box, will it need a new flywheel or can I use the 1108 one?? Its currently sat in a mk2 punto but I don't know if its worth waiting for a 1.4 to pop up as I've been told they will both be 150quid each

Cheers in advance

Lee

imho i would say go for the 1242 16v from a mk1 punto sporting if you can get one as they make slightly more power and with a superchip they make 100bhp easy, and before any of you start i know this because its all i did to my mk1 sporting 16v and made 97.1bhp and that was with a very very restrictive airfilter but the dyno lads said 100bhp was easy with a better filter. i really cant see the point in going through all the extra hassle to fit a 1.4 when the 1.2 is such a great motor. the reason i say a mk1 sporting is you could use the cinq loom and just either fit the 16v ecu to it (plug and play) or get a superchip for a mk1 sporting (1242 16v tuned map) and plug it straight into the cinq ecu, yes it by-passes the immo but who really cares about that. and once thats done you will have 100bhp N/A in a cinq and easily see off most turbo cinqs with slightly more power.

Could you link me to these chips for the 1.2 16v ? Also do they remove the imob ?

Thanks

if I have the head flowed and a bigger tb which is a must imo that should bring it a little above standard

I was under the presumption that a 421 mani was needed for clearance between the rad

I'm wondering how hard the wiring side of thing are as mariocinq mentioned using the cinq loom?? I was also under the impression that the the mk1 punto sporting engine loom HAD to be used

Yes the mk1 punto sporting engine loom has to be used and mated to the cinq loom at the d4 mate.
the manifold if you get a mk1 punto 1242 16v engine then you can use the exhaust manifold and make your own system:D:D
the reason i use the ss manifold on mine is cause the standard manifold for mine is a manicat and if you look at my thread you will see how little clearance you get with that ;)

Awesome the more info to digest the better, I'm still deciding on whether to do the 1.2 or 1.4 conversion but I do know I want a 16v'er hopefully as a early winter project, also I've spoken to one of my mates that has a mate with a cinq sx that has no keys so hopefully I've found my rear end for the cinq trailer I have been contemplating :)

Cheers for the info so far guys gonna have a ebay binge methinks :)

in the 1.2 range you have the mk1 punto sporting which was 86bhp then the mk2 sporting which was 84bhp and then the non sporting which was 82bhp with all mk2b 1.2 16v being the 82bhp verions all i can go off was what i had with my mk1 sporting,

minq the chip i got was off a guy that does mobile chips in nottingham, i will try to find his number but it was £100 for the chip i got which imho was worth every penny as it turned my punto into abit of an animal, personal opinion i recon that a 1.2 16v with a good inlet and TB set-up and a 4-2-1 mani along with sports cat and a flowed head and a good map i recon 120bhp N/A is possible cos being totally honest when my mk1 did 97.1bhp it had a 1.6 16v TB on but i hadnt realised there was a step so it made no difference and the airfilter was badly posisioned and caused massive restriction, it still had its stock cat on with a powerflow cat back and the lambda was causing over fueling so the car was far from running right and i got 97.1bhp, common sence says they are capable of alot more when running right.

Just another quick one, there's currently a 16v bravo in the local breakers and a 1.8 punto hgt

Question one
The bravo has a 16v engine in it but I'm unsure of what size it is, it has the black oil cap which leads me to believe its a 1.2 from convos with andyscinq, would this be the case or could it be a 1.6, does anyone know how I can tell the difference, it does have the same rocker cover as the one I saw in the 1.2 16v cinq at brooklands but I don't know what the 1.6 looks like or whether it was even a 16v, if anyone has any engine numbers or pictures so I can work out which the engine is

Question 2
Will the 1.8 hgt abarth tb fit on the 1.2 16v engine

Cheers guys

Lee

I'd imagine they are the same as the mk1 punto in that earlier sporting ones had the older heavy 1.6 and the later ones had a 1.2 16v engine - The 1.6 engine was 8v and look very much like a UnoT or PuntoGT engine (infact you can use the bottom end to make a PGT a 1.6 turbo instead of a 1.4).. If it looks like a 1.2 16v engine then it probably is would be my guess.

TB wise, i have no idea
