Unless that pink cable was shorting on something..
It isnt worn enough to lose connectivity

It is possible that water has entered exposed copper and corroded away under insulation breaking the circuit.

Good job finding that wear.

Hadn't thought of the corrosion aspect. I'll double check the wires and replace where I can. - using self solder/heat shrink connectors with (2mm external) cable as I can't find 1.5 (the actual size). Must check online to see if I can get a closer match. Will keep you posted
