allard

Allard senior did a phase 2 tune to my Pug a few years ago. bhp + tork went up 30%. Cost £580 but it was well worth it. I did have to go back though as Allard senior had chosen a pathway for the intercoller pipework that passed to close to water jacket oil cooler/heater housing causing it to make contact and rub through the soft brass alloy causing a water leak, but allard junior was well helpful and sorted out the pipework. a local place brazed the water jacket adjacent to the oil filter. But the ali intercooler they did was first rate and they modified the inlet manifold connecting in big bore pipework - looked smart and boy did the car go when I first drove it away ). Their racing golf is vv quick.

Indeed, they seem like very nice chaps.

Like I said, I called today and they were extremely helpful.

Theoretically, I should get more cooling with a bigger and front-mounted intercooler, which means denser air, thus more power.

Well, I will do when a new Turbo comes my way :)

yea i gav up when i got to RR deleted posts lol

let me know what thep pipe work is like i been meaning to get some my self ****ing EGR valve causes me a load of smoke if i drive like a granny then shaft it down to 3rd and rag it

No worries - will do.

I can image your Ibiza, standard with 170BHP and a remap 200BHP, with only 1 tonne, compared to my 180BHP 1.4 Tonne Bora, must shift.

I will get the pipework end of next week, then I'm away for a week, in which my local mechanic will fit it for me, so it'll be the following week I'll be able to write a review. (Februrary 4th Onwards)

Well. its 4 hours into the 5th now. i think thats long enough to wait... :D

Unfortunately the "Bent pipe" didn't turn up at the pipework place, so I'm awaiting delivery.

I'm utterly dissapointed at the company, since they said that the pipework would arrive by the last Friday in January at the latest.

Happy to take your money, and still no sign.

gutted for ya mate. i've been waiting to hear! as you can tell!
Depending on how you get on with your bora project, i've got me a 300bhp fantasy TDI saloon getting built in my head. (you may have spotted me 'best diesel' thread.
This is for after i get the new passat next year. Reckon it'll have to be a good 2-3 years away anyway A) to allow funds to build up so i can pay up front and not have to borrow money, and B) to get up to 7 years no claims, (and a couple more birthdays gone) so that the insurance is still a realistic number

Trust me, I've been waiting to hear just as much, if not more than you :)

Can't believe I came back from holiday to a standard Bora. LOL.

Here's some mouth-watering pictures for the time being.

None of the engine until it's finished though ;)

I didn't read your thread.. partly because I was probably on holiday and didn't see it.. will have a search now.

The only negative thing i would say about your bora is its silver. not a fan of silver cars. but i know its a good car. wanted one myself for long enough. I dont think the Passat is too big a step up price-wise, so would choose that over the same age/spec'd Bora.

and i suspect you are more anxious than me to get your upgrade done. ;)

UPDATE UPDATE

Allard Turbosport rang me today -

Now I know the following:

The PD130/PD150 engines are effectively the same engine with a different remap - So why can the PD150 be remapped higher than the PD130? - Because the Turbo's are slightly different. Even though the chamber size of the 'chargers on each of them specific units are identical, the outercasing on the PD130 is not. Odd.

This in turns means that the piping that runs from the top of the intercooler (inlet) from the Turbocharger is subsequently in a totally different place than that of a PD150.
Allard do not have a patterned part to copy for the kit, which means I'm going to have to take my car down to them so they can design a pattern for it, so they can sell it to prospect customers in the future. Great.

In addition to that, I've also found out there are two types of PD150 Intercoolers, in which they had a changeover around the 02/53 year of car. The earlier model has two right-angled pipes coming directly from the intercooler, this is the one to have for ease of fitment and no loss of boost. The later variant have two straight pipes and a bloody O-ring that sits over the pipework that leaks. Sounds like a downgrade more than an upgrade eh?
Anyway, I have one of them later intercoolers (dammit!), which means I have to goto Volkswagen and get another 2 right-angled pipes to add to the O-ring connection. Allard then silicon-seal the pipework to the intercooler, thus removing the possibilty of boost loss.

Of course, this depends on the price of these 2 right-angled pipes from Volkswagen. Maybe it's easier for me to go scrap-yard searchin' for an older Intercooler as you can't buy these better ones from Volkswagen.

Also, like I mentioned earlier, the PD150 intercooler bolts directly onto the PD150 radiator as standard. The PD130 radiator does not have these clips for the intercooler to bolt onto (shock horror), which originally meant a new radiator. However (this is lol), the newer radiators have these ridiculous O-ring clips (unlike mine), so I'm going to steer clear and try to get the PD150 Intercooler to fit somehow into the PD130 enginebay. Well, at least Allard say they're going to give it a shot anyway!

Sooooooooooo... Work that I'm having done on Friday 23rd is:

Allard Pipework Kit
Custom PD130 Pipe from Turbo to Intercooler
PD150 Intercooler Fitted to PD130 Radiator
Custom Inlet Manifold
Complete Removal of EGR recirculatory valve

The quest for big BHP ever continues...

Forgot to add.

I've been reliably informed that uprated injectors are for racing only, as they completely diminish the drivability of a normal every-day driving car.

The injectors in a PD150/130 are identical, and are good for 230BHP (Allard). That's a huge 40BHP over what I was originally told. Sounds good to me - Smiles up for once! :) :)

Excellent News, can't wait to see the final result. Will the clutch handle it. Thats almost 100BHP from standard.

its not the bhp its the torque i guess its the same clutch as mine good for 400nm or torque then u need a new one

In regards to the clutch;

There are people who run upto the 230BHP limit of the injectors with an OEM clutch just fine, however don't expect anywhere near as long life-expectancy of the OEM plate. It will run, and put the power down, it's just a case of how often you want to put your foot down.

And as you both know from driving diesels, if you floor it at 1,000rpm, you get this sudden spine-ripping-out feeling of 300lb/ft torque (Well, maybe not you Joske but me and Smee do ;))

Seriously; anything over 2,000rpm I'm told and floor it - you'll be fine, but keep giving it beans below 2k and you'll experience problems in no time at all.

Even so, the 230BHP limit is regardless. I'm looking at around 200-210BHP absolute max because I'm still on a standard PD130 Turbocharger, not a Hybrid.

However, there is a company called (I think, Turbo Dynamics) who will take your Turbo off your hands, replace the internals which in turn converts it to a Hybrid! A brand new Hybrid good for 250BHP is around £1175 inclusive of VAT. Not cheap.

Of course, after the pipework and Intercooler is fitted, I'll be pushing the same BHP for longer with a cooler charge (some may argue more), however I'm taking the feasability of driving such a car into consideration as I'm a 20k+ miler per year.

Clutch should be fine (My Bora is on 84k now, original clutch) and I still get no slip, even from an Angeltune Remap, which was done at 59k.

.. Then we'll get it rolling-roaded

March's project is NOS. Just kidding.

what does the bravo jtd put out on torque??

2k rpm in 2nd and 3rd is amazing like ian says. u dont drive it ur holding on for ur life. and im not joking.

y not get an allards turbo? that way ull be on ur way to a stage 2 or 3 then all u got to do is a bit at a time :)

Smee

Money is one factor.
Time is another.

Also, I've been told the Allard Turbo's arn't that great, and to go for a Turbo Dynamics Hybrid instead.

I'm taking the car Friday morning, going shopping in Gloucester for 6 hours, then going back to Allards the same day to drive the Bora home, assuming all is well.

To replace the Turbocharger, they ideally want to map it as well at the same time, which is another day!

.. Later Projects to come :)

Sheesh!! This is a Brav forum guys - You didn't even mark this off-topic (tut-tut). As it's you Ian we'll let you off on this one but enough! PLEASE!! It's German mundanity - you know you want another Brav. ;)

Oz, if you said that 50 posts earlier... ;)

I do miss the old Bravos!!! They were fun. We all move on though :)

who told u allards turbo and injector information?

i know a few people withthe phase 3 and injectors and they cant rate it enough. everyday use TOO

Smee

Allard told me that their Injectors suck.

A mate told me about his Turbocharger - since he changed to a Turbo Dynamics Hybrid, his car felt so much better.
