Well, I know it's not Fiat related, but I know a few of us have VAG TDI's and there are some thinking about converting
I'll take the 1.9 TDI for example (made from 01 to 05) which comes in 2 main variants - the 130BHP and the 150BHP
I, personally have the 130BHP; for insurance purposes.
Standard items will push upto approximately the following;
Turbocharger = 210BHP
Injectors = 190BHP
Clutch = 210BHP
A standard remap can give you upto around 180BHP without any other modifications - but this is when, if you require serious power, serious money needs to be spent.
A new turbo will cost around £1000, good for 350BHP
New PD racing injectors are £950 which are good for 350BHP and up.
An uprated SACHS clutch, fitted will cost £781. Good for 400BHP
And of course, don't forget the live remap, £600?
I've explored all "feasable" possibilites of a REALLY quick TDI, and, really, there's pretty much only one. NOS.
The TDI's are inherently stronger than their petrol counterparts (as we all know anyway), and diesel-NOS systems are just about becoming readily available, as such. You can cram a 100BHP shot of NOS onto a diesel, with an 11lb tank running 900PSI in the bottle (with a bottle warmer), and an uprated clutch, and see 300BHP without a progressive controller.
The theory is that, diesels run very rich, and therefore have excessive fuel to burn (hence why you see lots of black smoke when you boot it
)
So, for around £2,000 you can have a 300BHP diesel - assuming you have a decat pipe too.
Just food for thought.
