hi guys punto 04 finally realised after all hasstles that my car key sometimes work with the immobiliser and some times not ie at time it just take off the key and padlock sign and start normally but if i leave it overnight and try again it wont so have to switch on off few times to make it work so i probably think the key needed re coding any body suggest me where to get it done apart from fiat near manchester and roughly how much it will costs thanks.

you cant, its probably a bad earth anyway

you forgot to say its probably the earth on the ecu on top of the engine at the back right hand side
for clarity reasons
these keys cannot be replaced cheaply
probably cheaper to replace the complete brains and locks than see spotty ian at the fiat counter

thx guys before i tried every thing like changing the fuel pump but finally spotted that issue thanks for your help i will give it a go and will post about it.

Not mega expensive - depends where you go!

Ebay for a Blank Chipped key
and my local Auto-sparkie does key reprogramming for £25

So not mega expensive if you know the right places

Timpsons will cost you an arm and a leg

I'd get an actual quote before posting figures, theres no way they'd program a mk2 key for £25 UNLESS maybe its a key from Fiat already precoded and you have the key card.

Rung up before
And he did the same for my Mums Picasso which needed a new key

IF you can get the key cheap (unprogrammed and unchipped) No C/L version
And your lucky to have the Key Code Card
he can do it for £25

Ring your local auto electricians, miricle workers somtimes :)

Good info. But the OP has an intermittent problem so its unlikely to be the key. Check all connections to the body computer and immobiliser antenna and deffo make sure all earth points are clean. Its not technical you just need to be methodical and attention to detail,

I agree, forget about the key, they dont go faulty. check if the code light goes off, if not its the codebox/body computer or more likely ecu connections.
Tony.

correct ,
we had an intermittent issue a while back , and the local garage re-set BOTH keys for
£60 and it seemed worse.. turned out to be a bad relay ..did it myself by working out what clicked in the dash when it recognised the key,
only worked 1/40th time when cold and 100% when warm,
good luck,
Charlie

They might reprogram a key using the key card for £25, but they wont program a new key on the mk2 for £25.

The Picasso is different as it doesn't need precoding.
